Did the Saints win it, or did the Vikings lose it?

You're correct. The St. Louis kicker missed his FG first...I think. If that's the case, then they lost it. If Kasay missed his first then we won it. I forget which happened though.

I can't remember either, to be honest.

My point is this: the better team usually wins the game. It doesn't matter if one team "lost the game" due to turnovers or poor mistakes; that's why they lost, and that's why the better team -- the team that didn't make as many costly mistakes -- won the game.

While I agree with you, Carolina may never have made it to the Super Bowl were that the case.

Ah, but St. Louis lost that game -- the Panthers didn't win it.

If you remember Carolina and SL played a scoreless 1st OT

Carolina scored in the 2nd OT

Both teams had plenty of chances to win.

The Vikes lost it by the way.

I realize that.

All I'm saying is that if you're going to find fault with the current overtime rules (and I'm of the opinion they should be changed as well), then you can't propose a change in the rules for some situations but not others. So in this case, it would be unfair to say that a team should have a chance to match another team's score, unless they've both gone through an overtime period and "had chances."

This discussion is comical, because we're talking about overtime when both teams had the four quarters before overtime to win the game as well. ;)

The vikings turned the ball over 6 times, they lost it. 2 for farve and 2 for AP, it's why AP hasn't been the best back in the league the last few years. You can't be a great RB and fumble as much as he does. 20 fumbles in 3 seasons doesn't make a back great. Good game to the saints though, the defense stepped up when it counted.

    • Jake in his prime was a gutsy QB. But just like with even someone like Cam. Father time is undefeated. It's very unfortunate we have a guy who is only 24 years old that has an equivalent arm to that. Absolutely blows my mind that our brain trust lacked the basic common sense to value arm talent when making a massive trade with ramifications for years to come. Unforgivable incompetence.
    • Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
    • And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.
