Greg Williams suggesting the Saints injure Manning or overreaction by Mike Florio??

Greg Williams is a total POS.

He came out and said that their intention was to knock Manning out of the game. And, they are willing to take penalties to do it.

That says they intend to hit himlate and try and hurt him. There is no place in sports for a dirty coach like this.

But, I am sure Saints fans will justify it.

Read the quote again.

And the only thing you'd like for me to say is that if it happens you hope he doesn't get back up and play again."

Basically Williams is acknowledging the interviewer is trying to bait him into saying he hopes Manning doesn't get up again.

its not rocket science.

they did everything to knock warner out of the game = success

they did everything to knock Favre out of the game= success

and they WILL TRY IT AGAIN with Manning.

They are playing dirty and know that they couldnt beat the Vikes straight up, and they will play dirty in the Super Bowl too.

Kind of ironic- the "struggling saints" that everyone feels sorry for are going to play dirty as hell to win the game..

So let me get this straight guys. Every Sunday every defensive passrusher in every game since the birth of football has had the goal of hitting a QB as hard as he can as many times as he can. Greg Williams talks about this and he's the douchebag.

Dirty Coaching = dirty players

This is bulletin board material for the Colts. Its one thing to talk about your intention in the locker room but to come out and say it is another thing.

What the point of coming out and saying that crap. All it does is give the Colts an advantage because they know what Greg Williams want to do and it give the officials something to look for during the SB game.

After the first few intentional fouls by the Saints, I think the Colts O Line should start cut blocking the defenders and taking out the back of their legs. When Williams' players start getting injured and being sidelined maybe he will regret playing dirty cause karma is a bitch, and I hope the Colts demolish the Saints D. I wouldn't recommend the Colts D try to take out Brees, Id like to see them take out that bust in Reggie Bush instead. Colts 27-Saints 24 (Vinatieri with yet another clutch fg, winning the SB)...Manning 276 yards 3 TDs (Low yardage due to injury in late 3rd qtr.)

Exactly,

I know what Williams is saying. He is clearly saying he won't be upset if his team gets a few personal foul penalties for cheap shotting Manning if it sends him out of the game.

Maybe the NFL should fine Williams each time his D takes a cheap shot. After some point then a suspension. Can't just put it on the players when it is the game plan.

If I remember correctly, I think they fined a coach some years back for announcing a bounty on an opposing player. I would think that coaches would do a better job of being discreet. But then again a blowhard like Williams probably loves all this press and can't wait to brag about those kinds of things.

Buddy Ryan Bounty Bowl I and II against the Jimmie Johnson's Cowboys! Had a hit out against Troy Aikman and the kicker (who was knocked out of the game with a concussion I think). I think he paid $200 for each time they hit one of them. Eagles won both games and they were nasty. I don't think there were any fines though. I even remember CBS hyping the game up as a the Bounty Bowl on the commercials leading up to it.

I don't think they could prove Buddy had a bounty out there. Didn't he deny it?

Very good point that I did not catch the first time around. Looks like he learned from his comments about Steve Smith and was letting the reporter know he could not be baited into saying it. And then he said it. Not smart but definitely in a different context than many have commented on here.

    • Jake in his prime was a gutsy QB. But just like with even someone like Cam. Father time is undefeated. It's very unfortunate we have a guy who is only 24 years old that has an equivalent arm to that. Absolutely blows my mind that our brain trust lacked the basic common sense to value arm talent when making a massive trade with ramifications for years to come. Unforgivable incompetence.
    • Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
    • And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.
