Right back to Kochetkov? Curious… not a lot of faith in Raanta apparently.

Or Raanta has a nagging injury too. Which I wouldn’t doubt.

Raanta always has something wrong with him.

He got ran over in the game against the Kraken and I swear he came up with some sort of injury, he just didn’t look right.

Which leads me to believe Freddie is still in the protocol. Thus Raanta who’s probably got a lower body is the backup by default.

Think it has more to do with Burke being reassigned. Svech and Pesce aren’t playing and if Aho can’t go then we’d be going 11-6 (that’s only 17 players); calling up Coghlan allows us to go 11-7 (a full 18 players).

I’m more than fine going 11-7 tonight with Coghlan in and then getting Aho, Svechnikov, Pesce, and Andersen back on Thursday.

If he can go at 90% I’d much rather Aho over a 100% coghlan. We don’t need to be making our defense even shittier.

If it’s worse than they are letting on, I’d rather Aho take another week. Especially with Svech hopefully coming back Thursday/Friday.

TAMPA, FL. - Trying to predict the Carolina Hurricanes' lineup on Tuesday is comparable to attempting to predict the winning lottery numbers.

Well, kind of.

You can get the Martinook - Staal - Fast line and the Slavin - Burns defensive pairing correct, but that won't land you the million-dollar recipe.

Quote

Tonight's Projected Lineup... if Aho plays

Teravainen - Aho - Necas

Noesen - Kotkaniemi - Jarvis

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Bunting - Drury - Lemieux

Stumpy's Thoughts:

Did we all learn nothing last year from the Pacioretty predicament?

Don't rush these guys back from injury . It's a long ass season. And, IDK about you, but I'd rather watch Aho feeding Svech breakaways in June rather than October.

Aho, Anderson, Pesce, Svech...? Keep all these MFers on ice (for lack of a better word) until New Years if need be. He'll, Svech tore his ACL like 6 months ago, sit his ass until the playoffs if needed.

We have one of the most loaded talent pipelines in all of hockey. What better way to discern if any of them are ready, than to let them play with the big boys.

Let's be real, we already know who this team is. They will be cup contenders at seasons end. I don't think I'm going out on any limbs by predicting that.

The difference between a contender and a winner are usually those unheralded grinders and unexpected bloomers that round out the stars on the roster. A young goalie with the sophmoric confidence to turn a regular season hot streak into a historic playoff run. A 4th line winger who finds his shot playing on the top line for 10 games, scores the game winner that sends a team to the Finals.

Early season struggles/injuries are often the catalysts that breed postseason success!

All that said, I really don't like the Orlov/TDA bottom pairing.

Might as well put 5 forwards on the ice at that point. Considering the strengths of our 2-way wingers, it might be our best option while Pesce is out... lmao

Bunting on the 4th line is interesting but with the way Teravainen and Noesen have been playing, I can see the reasoning.

Maybe when healthy we can spread the wealth:

Teravainen - Aho - Necas

Noesen - Kotkaniemi - Jarvis

Bunting - Drury - Svechnikov

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Lemieux

Not really. Bunting is feed manning the top two lines and still getting goals. Ya it would cut his minutes(he’d still be on the PP) but Noesen is jiving with TT. Bunting would bring up drury’s play(or not which would suggest a trade for picks). Give it a try for a few games, especially when we have last change. As Ottawa is not a pushover at this point. See if Drury can feed bunting and vice versa to create chances.

Obviously not a permanent change. Just to test the water.

Completely different injury and player.

Correct.

Max was never in our long term plans, so his absence didn't really hinder us in any meaningful way.

Svech's long term recovery is far more important to this team then his return this season.

Bunting was brought in to be the physical presence on the Aho line though. We wanted that to be Marchment and then went after Bunting a year later. Bunting might do fine next to Drury but come playoff time it would be beneficial to have the extra grit next to Aho.

Also, Noesen hasn’t been playing with Teravainen, that’s been Bunting. Noesen has been doing really well next to KK though which is why I think he’s going to stay there for right now. But with Aho back that means Teravainen is back to the wing which pushes one of Bunting or Teravainen down. For right now it appears Bunting will be on the fourth line.

However, if the ‘fourth line’ becomes Bunting - Aho - Svechnikov then you’ll see the ice time spread out equally with out a true numbering system in my opinion.
