The Easiest, Most Correctable Action: Fixing the FO/Coaching Disjointment

Not really about the thread but sure to the Saints point.  You're selling me on changes to the OL and what could be successful.  But that's reliant on making changes under a new staff, and hoping they progress once things are adjusted.  I'm not banking on that and that's not what this is about.

Poor roster construction, poor scheme pairing.  Doesn't change the point of having alignment between a front office and coaching staff.

There's nothing to suggest any modicum of comfort moving forward.  If you're needing to sell potential improvement on both scheme and positional changes..(& needing better guard depth) then they clearly had some misalignment staff-wise.  Product shows that at 1-10 clear as day.

I get the part about alignment, but that doesn't necessarily mean two people have to be hired together. It just means they have to work well together.

Mind you, I would have no problem with hiring a coach and GM together, as long as the GM is the one hired first. Coaches picking their GM sucks.

As far as the roster, I can tell you from reporting that Tepper feels the roster is well constructed as far as defense and special teams, only the offense is an issue, and that of course was Frank Reich's area.

The impression I get from that is that Tepper may not be looking to make major changes to the front office.

If Tepper feels that way then we really have a big problem!

The current GM traded down twice from the top 40 in 2021 to get TMJ in the low 50's. He's had no positive impact on this team at all. Two picks later the Chiefs picked an all-Pro caliber center in Creed Humphrey. He took Mingo in the 2nd round. Once again no impact.

We had a chance to cut bait with Ian Thomas, another low impact and under achieving player. Scott e gave him an extension! Tommy Tremble has shown flashes, but he's never been given the chance to be the guy, so we still don't really know what he can do as a TE.

Our receiving core is the worst in the NFL. With the except

The O-line can't protect Bryce Young. Weak at every spot on the O-line except RT(T. Moton) , the only starting lineman on the team that Scott didn't acquire via FA or the draft.

With the exception of Adam Theilan, who is really suited as a #3 at this stage in his career, we don't have a skill position player who could start on another team in the NFL. With the exception of Moton and a "healthy" A. Corbett, I'm not sure if any of our lineman could start on a playoff caliber team in the NFL.

We're not picking solid players on the offensive side of the ball, and that responsibility lies with the Fitterer, the scouts, and the rest of the front office.

    • He was saying Ron hid when he was cut/traded whatever that was.  I get being resentful, and feeling like that was gutless.  He, and Ron, neither are from the ‘breaking up with someone in a text or email is okay’ generation. That avoidance is seen as a lack of character.  Talking about it on camera how many years later? Why? And it is all one sided he said she said stuff. As he is speaking I am thinking well I bet that ain’t the whole story.    Between this type of stuff and him cheating on the wife stuff some of his shine is wearing off.
    • I was very critical of Ron Rivera as a coach for a range of reasons. But Steve Smith has been playing the victim for years now and it's just not working anymore. We know for a fact that he was disgruntled from the moment we drafted Cam Newton because of his own ego. That says more about him than anything he could say about Rivera. And yes Ron Rivera had a lot of faults. No excuses for it. We were right to move on from him. But ultimately Steve Smith couldn't hold it together with that group the same as he struggled to hold it together under previous regimes. He needs to grow up and accept his own role in the last few years of his Panthers career because there are things he could and should have done differently the same as anyone else. Stop seeking to only shift blame to everyone else and evolve or just stop talking and fade away. This isn't helping anyone and it is certainly not helping his image.
    • A friend of mine was involved in building Steve Smith's house and nearly came to blows with him during the process.  Love Smitty as a player, but I've heard very little good about him as a human being.
