Matt Cullen to Senators for D Picard and 2nd round pick

Solid trade, not the last, expect corvo + ward to be gone as well, maybe even Whitney.

Corvo is not going anywhere,

Ward, Brind'Amour, and Whitney are the only players left on the trading block.

For those that don't know Cullen and possibly Whitney are being traded but will most likely resign with the Canes next year. Hopefully it works out better than the year they tried this with Commodore.

This is a great move by JR.

Also, reports are that JR is asking for a 1st round pick + prospect(s) for Whitney. There are teams willing to pay it. It's just about getting the best deal for this team, and a good spot for Whitney (who has a NTC).

Word is, he would have waived his NTC to go to the Kings, but it was riding on a 3 year extension from the Kings. They weren't down for it, so he didn't waive it.

Boston and Montreal are reportedly very interested. Earlier this week JR said he expected to have Cullen traded prior to the Olympic freeze, and Whitney afterwards.

Whitney will be traded. I mean, barring something crazy he's gone. Corvo probably would be too, but his value probably sucks right now.

And regarding Cheechoo, he is terrible. The only reason he had that one good season several years ago is because he had the best passer in the NHL feeding him the puck. He is not even a shadow of his former self, and nowhere near worth his salary.

That would be sweet to get a first and a nice prospect for Whitney. Also another couple second rounders from 1 or two more trades. We'd go into the draft with 2 first and around 4-5 seconds.......plus be adding in a couple of extra prospect in the trades.

On top of that we'll most likely be getting whitney and cullen back after this season...

Super win for JR if he can pull the first plus for whitney.

Yes, unfortunately it looks like Whitney will likely be looking to finish his career elsewhere, if he is traded. I don't know if that deal with LA was just because he has special ties there, or whether or not he'd be seeking 3 years with any other team.. who knows? All speculation at this point. But it certainly looks as if Whitney is done as a Hurricane by the deadline this year.

Cullen, on the other hand I could see coming back. He's already been recycled by JR and had a lot of success here as a team and also as an individual player.. for whatever reason.

Best of luck to Matt though. Maybe the most underrated player on our team.

Well one thing is for sure the Cane's defense is SOLID, we have Joni Pitkanen [representing Team Finland] Tim Gleason [representing Team USA], Alexandre Picard, Joe Corvo, Aaron Ward, Andrew Alberts, and Brett Carson.

I would like to see the Canes try to trade Rod Brind'Amour, Ray Whitney, Aaron Ward, and Scott Walker. These four guys are getting up their in age and are not getting any younger. Whitney is the first priority because his value will go down after this year. Ward, Brindy, and Walker should be traded to teams that are trying to make a playoff run this year. It may take some time to get the Canes back on track after trading some key players but that is essentialy what the Blackhawks did and they are looking better than ever.
