Colts Fan Here(Panthers Mock Draft)

I recently entered a draft game, where you pose as a team's GM and since my beloved Colts were gone I chose to GM the Panthers, you start out with all your picks despite real life trades(I still have the Panthers #1 pick)

So I figured I would come here, do a mock draft on the first four rounds, see what you guys think of it and discuss your needs...

1st Round- WR Golden Tate Notre Dame-

Just from reading your forum, I can see you guys need another wideout to backup Steve Smith, Tate has enough potential to be a number one receiver but would compliment Smith very well in your offense

2nd Round- DT Brian Price UCLA or Terrence Cody Bama-

Pretty much whoever is available here, you guys need a big guy up the middle to run stop and both these guys are exactly that.

(In the actual game, I traded this pick for McNabb lol)

3rd Round- QB Tony Pike Cincinatti-

Just from watching highlights all year, I can tell you guys need to get you QB situation cleaned up, idk if you guys are going to resign Matt Moore or stick with Delhomme, but I think Pike would be a good pick either way. He is a potential starter who might kick Jake into gear for a year or two, then slide into the starting position.

4th Round- OT Selvish Capers West Virginia-

This is kind of a hit or miss kind of pick...He might be able to step in and help with pass protection for your young QB, or he might be a backup his whole career, but he has the potential and is worth a shot...

Your 1st 2 picks are outstanding. I have been talking both of them up for months. I think Pike has bust written all over him. I would much rather have LeFevour but I doubt we draft a QB that early unless Moore is not retained.

I doubt we would ever draft a OT that early (maybe a 5th most likely at the earliest 6th). I would go with another WR because Tate is more of a slot guy with Smith here we still need a possession receiver. Either a guy like J. Williams outta of Tulane or Riley Cooper.

I would love to get Dez Bryant, but I dont think he will be on the board...I will probably take a good look at the SC guy too, but I would really like to get a receiver in the first round and I think Tate has all the skills...Plus I dont like what I would get in the first round at DT.

I actually like Lefevour and Sneed as well, like I said, I didn't look too far into it QBs...I probably won't be drafting one in the game.

What are your guys other needs on defense? I have two third rounders now, so I might look into a few OLBs, what do you think of Eric Norwood?

Wouldn't mind Norwood but I would look at AJ Edds. He is a perfect fit as a cover 2 SLB as he excels in Coverage while still playing the run well. Diggs is someone who is upgradeable and I think Edds is a better athlete.

I also would look at Darly Washington if you could get him in the 3rd (very unlikely but for us unless TD bolts I don't think the value is there for us in the 2nd). Could also see us looking for a CB late. I haven't looked into any so I can't help you there but its a mild need.

FS is set but depth at SS couldn't hurt, our D looked terrible when Harris was out. I like Aaron Webster outta Cincinnati. Great against the run and is better in coverage then Harris. He is projected in the late rounds.

Also if Brandon Graham was there in the 2nd pick him. He would be a beast in our D with Meeks working with him. Then pick up Geno Atkins in the 4th, would be a perfect UT.

If we actually had a 1st round and a 2nd round, I'd go with Tate and Price. I'd draft Brandon Ghee, CB from Wake Forest in the 3rd over Pike, or Dan LeFevour QB from Central Michigan.

If neither were available, Willie Young DE from N.C. State, best DE available in the 3rd.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
