Can't believe you guys still buy the physical copies...once I got Kindle I've never bought another hard back again.

 

I'm an old crotchety curmudgeon at the ripe old age of 34. You folks with your newfangled technologies... BLAH!

But srsly... I just like being able to hold the book in my hand and flip the pages. Plus, whenever I get to the task of putting up a bookshelf, it'll look more impressive when I line up all the physical pages of text that I have read.

 

And, I'm scared if I had an e-book I would drop it in the pooper.

FWIW, I still listen to CDs more than playing music on my old iPod or on my phone.

I'm 44 whipper snapper.  I used to have 2 bookshelves filled with hardbacks.  Sold all of those and now I have more room for other stuff.  Seriously, aside from the space savings there are so many advantages to owning a kindle (or kindle fire like I have).  You still own it forever.  You can do quick searches, make notes, read with the lights off (which is great if you're married)...etc.  

 

BTW...I'm in the middle of The Passage by Justin Cronin, it was mentioned earlier in this thread by somebody I believe.  So far it's pretty good.

Finished the wise man's fear, damn I really enjoyed those two books. Should check out the AMA Rothfuss did on reddit, said that he's written a book regarding Bast's story.

I can't recommend Scott Lynch enough if you enjoyed Rothfuss and GRRM. The 4th book in Lynch's series is supposed to come out sometime this year.

found a hardcover copy of Brent Weeks's The Black Prism at my local used book store for $5

so far, i'm really impressed with it.  this has always been a book that's been suggested to me through Amazon and Good Reads, I've just never found it on a shelf anywhere that wasn't a mass market paperback

characters are pretty interesting so far... locations and nationalities/races are also interesting... and the magic system is pretty smart.  I don't usually like fantasy that relies too heavily on crazy magic systems, but this one is interesting and reminds me a lot of Sanderson's Mistborn series.

i'm about 200 pages in at this point (about a 1/3 of the way through... BIG book), and i'd definitely recommend it off of everything I've read so far.  good stuff

Saw this thread.... saw it was 32 pages long.... knew WoT would be a major point of discussion. 

 

I judge every single one of you that prefers SoT to WoT. Hell I judge you if you read more than 5 books in SoT. That whole series (excluding the first book) was pure garbage and a blatant rip off of WoT (well aware WoT borrows from other series). 

Back to the OG post, I see you read Night Angel. You need to read the Lightbringer series (3 of 4 are complete) its better.

His next book, Armada, is coming out in two weeks. It should be a smash hit.

Trust me on Ready Player One, this is a book you'll read and re-read.

I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K Dick last year. Really enjoyed it and it was a quick read. Loved the movie Bladerunner but had never gotten around to reading the book. The book was great and shows how amazing the movie was in it's adaptation.

the book is being made into a film and directed by Spielberg... should be pretty good

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.

      My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
