Kasay will retire...

The combination of the two salaries is extremely high....fact.

First, that's not even true. "Extremely" high? Please, give me a break.

Second, even if it was true, so what? Are you the one writing the checks?

However, you cannot carry three kickers effectively with the roster limitations.

BS. We did it just fine since Lloyd got here. The reason we bowed out in the playoffs in '08 didn't have a damn thing to do with carrying three kickers. The reason we were .500 this season didn't have a damn thing to do with carrying three kickers. If you would rather have an extra Hilee Taylor to ride the bench instead of having a good field goal kicker/good kickoff specialist/good punter, I'm not sure you have your football priorities in order.

i vote matt prater from denver. 24 years old. made less than $500k last year. RFA not tendered.

on FGs went 29-34 last year and 2-3 from 50+ yards. didn't miss any of the 32 XPs he kicked.

meanwhile kasay was 22-27 on FGs with 1-4 from 50+ and one missed XP out of 32.

on KOs avg. 68.4 yards per kick (lloyd was 66.7), 28 TBs (lloyd had 21)

kasay is supposed to get $1.75mil this year and $2mil the next 2 years.

who is the better deal?

i like where you are coming from here, but how many of prater's touchbacks were at mile high?

The combination of the two is north of $2M....which is very expensive for a kicker.

I would rather have guys that can contribute on other aspects of ST's than carry three kickers....absolutely.

And, Kasay ranked 18th among FG kickers. Not exactly the best in the league. We carried three kickers to have a FG kicker ranked in the bottom half. My football priorities are exactly where they should be.

For kickers sure, but so what? Are you writing the checks? Does this make a difference on the football field?

Which training camp cut that we made last year do you think would have made the team if we had no kickoff specialist and how much playing time do you think that person would have received?

And I'm not saying that Kasay is a world-beating kicker anymore. I'm just trying to make the point that a field goal kicker is a completely different animal than a quarterback. You should always be looking at better options at quarterback because that's the most vital position on the team. However, you should hold hang on to kickers for as long as you can because it's extremely difficult to replace them. Ask teams like the Cowboys and Redskins for more information.

18 of 37 at home compared to 11 of 42 away. :D

still...room for growth. can do it all. much cheaper. why not? one reason...sentimentalism.

See this is where fans get too emotional. This is still a business and someone is writing the checks. People think that jsut because this is an uncapped year that owners should just spend like drunken fools.

You have to weigh several things....value to the team now....price for that value...and future value to the team.

Without having to write the check, you go completely on emotion.

If I were an owner, I would look favorably at paying someone $500k per year to perform the sam job as someone who cost me $2.5M per year....not to mention that I would have to carry an additional kicker to make up for his deficiencies.

You are letting your emotions play too much into this.

I am not running Kasay out of town....I just refuse to let fan loyalty and sentimentality drive the decision.
