Is Delhomme better than Quinn?

Today? Derek Anderson is gone, Seneca Wallace is the other option in Cleveland.

CLEVELAND -- Browns President Mike Holmgren said that trade talk for Brady Quinn is "a little premature," but he indicated that Quinn's future with the club depends on acquiring another quarterback. "It all depends on what else we can do," Holmgren told The Plain Dealer on Friday. "We are continuing to look for and evaluate quarterbacks."

Holmgren said that he has not closed the door on signing free agent Jake Delhomme, who left the Browns without a contract to visit the New Orleans Saints. Delhomme, 35, is undecided about whether he wants to compete for the Browns' starting job or finish his career as Drew Brees' backup with his hometown team.

"Delhomme is an ongoing discussion ... he still is on radar," Holmgren said. "But I did tell this to Jake: while you're debating what you want to do, I've got to keep going. We're not just sitting on our hands waiting for something to happen.

"I don't want to be left standing at the altar."

Holmgren insisted he did not -- and would not -- promise Delhomme a starting job.

"I told him when I met with him that we'll never say that to a free agent guy, tell him, 'You're the starter,'" Holmgren said. "I think if you promise guys those things, and then something happens (to change that), then you have a disgruntled player. We're not going to do that.

"I think if we're competing with New Orleans, I think it's safe to say he will not be the starter in New Orleans. I think he certainly has the potential to be the starter here."

Wallace has 25 TDs to 14 INTs in 556 attempts in his career and had 11TDs to 3INTs in the 8 games he started in 2008 and a 58.3 completion percentage and 87 QB rate.

Quinn has 10 Tds to 9 INts in 353 attempts in his carrer. He had 8TDs to 7INTs last season with a 53.1 completion percentage and 67.2 QB rating. And was constantly pulled in and out of the line up because of how bad he was. Wallace is better than him.

Jake has had more INTs than TDs the last 2 years with a 55.5 completion percentage last season and 59.4 QB rate. In 2008 he had a 59.4 completion percentage and 84.7 QB rate. Wallace is better than him.

In conclusion, Wallace is better than both.

    • I don't believe this at all.
    • His PPG actually did go up a little in Colorado. We will see. I still sort of believe we saw pretty close to the peak of his abilities last year. Not wishing him ill or trashing him in any way. Just tend to believe we did sell high and correctly so.
    • Well, other teams also had an offseason. I honestly agree with him. Right now I have way more faith in Coker ascending then I do XL. I think it's the TE/WR group dragging us down. Plus he does mention that the list was made with WR's very much valued more than RB's and TE's(I understand the thought process). In that context, we have a very aging AT, two "wait and see" second year players(one leaning bust) and a rookie.  I really think this is a very fair rating, on paper and in the offseason. Quite frankly, aside from the aforementioned and aging AT, this is a bunch of guys still trying to prove themselves.  Then when you go to TE, it's easily a bottom 3-4 unit on paper. That is probably being extremely generous.  RB is where we make our hay. Probably a top 5-10 unit. But....he mentions early in the article that he doesn't value the RB units as much.  So, really, it's the weighting of the skill positions that is what really fugs us.
