SorthNarolina's post-combine mock draft....

I have to apologize for making so many of these topics but I don't know how to delete my old ones.

I think we're definately trading next year's 1st. Trading doesn't cost money. However, this additude of trimming the fat may also mean we won't make any big trades. That way we have clean books and all of our draft picks next year. I think we are going to make trades though. We always do.

We need help and draft picks are young and cheap. Sounds good for this year.

I think we'll get a 2nd and 4th like last year.

REVISED I kind of forgot that I had David Reed down there at the bottom so yeah 3 WR's didn't make much sense. Instead I went to the other extreme and got 3 DE's. I'd love to hear more feedback.

2nd: Bradon LaFell WR - He should just barely be able to fall to 47.

2nd: Corey Wootton DE - great pass rusher, coming off an ACL injury should be a full 2 years out by September. A little stiff in run support but can be coached up.

3rd: Mike Neal DT - He'll be great in rotation. Fits well in the 4-3. We have good depth so getting a solid developmental guy is a good move here.

4th: Rennie Curran OLB - great WLB for the cover 2. Only knock on him is that he's small. Has 1st round atributes otherwise. Will be a great backup. Watch his highlights he flies around the field. I would love to see him at SLB but he doesn't have the size. Connor would be better but I'd still like to get a SLB somewhere. I'd rather have Curran even if he'll back up Davis most of the time. This is my biggest "draft crush" I geuss you could call it. I want this man to be a Panther.

4th: Greg Hardy DE - this is a total gamble but acceptable in the 4th. He's an injury prone Peppers clone. His success is reliant on a number of big IFs.

6th: David Reed WR - A small school guy that transfered to the big schools and still put up great numbers. This guy is highly underated.

7th: George Johnson DE - good value here. I can't find a place to pick a DE where we couldn't get somebody else better at an other position. A big trend in our 7th round is to draft a longshot DE or a developmental OL guy. The OL guy's have worked out better than the DE's. O-line depth is great this year though, so pile on the D-linemen.

If the Panthers draft another USC receiver (another in the 2nd?!?) then someone needs to be slapped upside the head. I like Jarrett and all but in no way was he worth a 2nd.

In a twisted way it makes a lot of sense. Jarrett and Colbert have no bearing on how williams will turn out. USC recievers have been very bust worthy but maybe they'll strike gold.

"Fool me once shame on you fool me twice and shame on me." Sometimes you just have to say enough is enough. Who's the last WR we took on day 1 that didn't go to USC?

Rae Curruth? Moose? Off the top of my head I don't know. Did Smitty go on the first day? I think the 3rd round counted as 1st day back then. I can't remember.

We drafted everette brown after all the Florida State DE's had been poo. They don't seem to care. The reactions on here would be really funny too.

DE is just an akward pick to put in the 2nd I don't know who to put there.

I think if we take a LB it will be Edds wee need help on the strong side more than anything and he's the only really pure SLB in this draft.

Boom, right on the money. I think he is a perfect tampa 2 SLB. One of the best cover LB's in the draft and plays the run well.

    • Of course, everyone has film. That is probably fresh in their mind though. Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
