I've read a lot of complaints from people who believe loyalty is interfering with the quality of the franchise especially in regard to Jake's contract. Many huddlers have expressed that more emphasis should be put on running the team as strictly business without creating a family-like atmosphere.

We have something special in Carolina that has allowed us to manage the salary cap more efficiently because players feel respected and are willing to negotiate. Peppers was an obvious exception, he never seemed to feel comfortable in this environment.

Furthermore, we have an astonishingly low instances of players feuding with coaches, fans, and management. These sort of things can destroy franchises much more than rewarding a quarterback with a big contract a few years to late.

And to those who want emotion removed from the franchise entirely, talk to Browns fans who watched their team disappear overnight. I want Super Bowls too, but I am also proud that the team I cheer for displays superb character and that can never be taken away.

Agreed. I believe that Jake was the starter last year because Fox honestly thought (at the time) that he was the best QB that gave us a chance to win. We have all been wrong before though...

I see your point and agree to some extent...

But check this out.. for years the team has been extremely loyal, to a fault.. So naturally, people want more balance in this when they say "we want this team run like a business"..

There will always be a push and pull from the fans when this stuff goes to the extreme like Fox's loyalty has been in the past...

Well, in a way it all comes down to business. I think all too often we think the term "business" must mean a team is cut-throat or operates unethically.

As you've pointed out, it's often in the business's best interest to do otherwise. It behooves teams to treat players with respect and to bring in high-character guys. Like any business, it's a balance.

This. He did not to very well in preseason or when he was put in against the Eagles. He also made some TERRIBLE passes against the Patriots.

It is a balance. And when we err, I think we err on the right side. I also thinks it contributes to why our young franchise has a strong fan base. Its got the aspects of a restaurant that makes you want to come back. If only I could take my shirt off at a game...

compared to what Jake did at home vs. Arizona... not to mention Jake down the stretch in the season. whats done is done, but Jake should have been sacked way before the Jets game (note, had jake not gotten injured we would still be stuck w/ him)
