Golden Tate not in Mel Kiper or Todd McShay's first round

I don't have a link, because I'm not an ESPN Insider. Im watching First Take and they are interviewing him. They are comparing him to Steve Smith (size, speed, and trash-talking). On to the points of this thread:

1) does anyone have access to this mock draft of Kiper or McShay?

2) Do you agree that Tate won't go in the first round? (not even late?)

DAMN. hes bald and actually resembles Smitty a bit!!!

Guy is really stiff and doesn't play as fast as he ran at the combine. Good talent, but over-hyped right now. He's definitely worth a second though.

Edit: I agree with kp30 below. I think someone will reach and he'll go late 1st.

I believe he'll go in the 1st round to the Jets(#29 overall. Braylon Edwards is bad.)

However, if he somehow falls to the 2nd round there are several teams that will be there to grab him early before us(Patriots, Seahawks, Bucs, etc.)

Smitty can fix that with a punch...;)

There's a lot of solid WR help in the draft this year. Personally, I don't think so. Not for a #2 WR.

I agree and disagree. I agree that we shouldn't trade a first to move up and get him, however, if there is someway that we could maneuver up w/o using a first rounder im all for it. in addition, I think Tate has the potential to be #1. Smitty will be 31 this year. we have a really good receivers coach. idk maybe im just too optimistic

If he's available at the top of the 2nd, would he be worth trading next year's first rounder to move up?

I believe Chiefs have more than one 2nd round pick. Wouldn't have to trade a 1st for a high 2nd I don't think. Hurney pretty much stated.. he's open to getting more picks.

on NFL network last night he was listed as Mayocks #4 WR, behind bryant, Benn and someone else. i was a little suprised and excited. maybe he will last, but too many teams ahead of us in the 2nd need a WR

You don't know how much I hope that he falls. He could very well be a seconding coming of Steve Smith. difference is, Tate has alot more fame coming into this draft. but I love that he has a chip on his shoulder, and he could learn a whole lot from Smith.

I'm almost positive someone takes Tate before Benn. I think he goes as the #2 WR after Bryant or the #3 after Thomas.

agreed. draft grades dont always add up to draft selection order. i was a little suprised to see Benn so high. plus Tate has that "big" play ability upside that a lot of teams are looking for this year. so his stock will be higher than some other guys that grade out slightly better than him.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
