Browns GM Holmgren defends decision to sign Delhomme

The Saltman

who was bidding against the Browns, and were they really in the $7 Million ballpark, if anything they should be outraged they gave a washed up QB who benefited from Steve Smith more than anything, that much money.

Hope they aren't planning on running a passing offense next season, it must be Run first for jake to have any chance whatsoever

If the Panthers played the Browns or Lions more they might have a lot more good looking seasons by now!

ya. the only way that will happen is if we move to toronto and they put us in a northern division. Than wed have to play pittsburgh and baltimore every year....

Nevermind what the *** am i talking about?

I don't know if anyone was bidding with them, but it seems like Jake's agent is damn good at his job when he needs to be. I think the big thing here is that Holmgren really wanted Jake in Cleveland for his leadership and was willing to pay that to get him there.

if Jake is worth $7mil for "leadership" ability, The Golden Calf of Bristol should have a good career financially in NFL no matter how his passing game comes along. The Golden Calf of Bristol has more god-given talent than delhomme and probably better leadership skills. high value in NFL apparently for this at QB

Damn intangibles...

Really though, it's hard to bash the Browns because we overpaid him too.:blush2:

the Jake story in Carolina is a series of failures.

They failed to capably back him up which put more pressure on him after 2003

They failed to begin looking for a successor when they realized he is not "the one"

They failed to get rid of him when he showed signs of poor decision making

They failed to get rid of him when he showed signs of poor accuracy

They failed when they extended his contract for millions

They failed to keep him around to let him be a backup and possibly cash in a little of their poor spending.

This one player sums up the ineptitude of the Panther org. IMHO.
