The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had trouble filling up their stadium lately. But all of their games have appeared on local television. This reality has prompted widespread speculation that the team has been purchasing the excess tickets, to ensure that the three-hour informercial will air not only when the team plays on the road, but also when the team plays in Tampa.

Though the official NFL Game Books show sellout-level crowds for the seven games hosted at Raymond James Stadium in 2009 (63,806 against the Cowboys, 63,689 against the Giants, 62,422 against the Panthers, 62,994 against the Packers, 62,720 against the Saints, 62,731 against the Jets, and 62,578 against the Falcons), the folks at JoeBucsFan.com said that empty seats were common last season, citing figures from the Tampa Sports Authority. Per the St. Petersburg Times, the actual attendance for the game against Charlotte was only 42,487.

If the team has been eating the extra tickets, that could be changing. Co-chairman Joel Glazer recently said that there is a "real possibility" that the team will face blackouts during the 2010 season, according to Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune.

"I'd say this is the first year in many years that we expect we could very well have blackouts, based on where we're at,'' Glazer said. "We hope that's not the case, but where we sit today, we don't want people to be necessarily surprised because we haven't had this in 15 years, but we're staring at the possibility for the first time in a decade and a half of having games blacked out in our local market. It's not what we want and we are working very hard to try and see that it doesn't happen, but it is a real possibility.''

Last year, the Buccaneers played only seven regular-season games at home, since one of their "home" games took place in London. It's possible that the Glazers justified paying for the excess tickets for the seven Tampa games by using any extra money earned from the 80,000-plus who attended the game at Wembley Stadium.

Regardless of how the Glazers managed to avoided blackouts in 2009, that same approach apparently won't be used in 2010, making Jacksonville no longer the only city in Florida that is scrambling to sell tickets.

can't agree with ya on that one.. I would hate to see that happen with Carolina...

besides, I hate the Bucs suck, they have always been a great rival team.. them going downhill doesn't help our rivalry any. I at least enjoy a reason to hate the team, can't hate them when they are just fuggin horrible..

that doesn't really change my feelings on the issue.. I'm sure people have said the likes of "I'm glad we aren't 1-15" or "I'm glad we don't hold the record for the most losses in a season" or "I'm glad the Lions beat our record of the most losses in a season"..

my feelings are still the same.. I like having a good rivalry like the one we had with the Bucs..

      Why trading up in 2026 is a bad idea.

      It puts more pressure on being right, I always feel trading back is the move 97/100 times. There are times where you fall in love and if that guy is only 7 spots away and the cost is only a 6th or pick swap......why not?? so long the cost is low, Im more willing to do so.  Still one of the best teams at trading back and they torn apart the Panthers on those trades; Pats. You still have to pick the players, that's what happens. In theory you should also add picks, but it does get to point of eight 3rd rounders or two late 1st and a 2nd?? I mean every draft is different, so the talent maybe not fall off a cliff after pick 50. Case by case deal, but vastly I prefer to trade back.....another curve if you trade back and the scouts/coaches have not planned for it. You have to be ready and know the spot you are trading too (everyone). Just like trading out of 1st round two weeks before the draft, that hurts your team as they have been focused on pick 10 and now its wait until pick 42....

      2026 Mock Drafts

      IDK, just I know these mock drafts are time "wasters" and even more before FA cause that does change a huge portion of the needs. I think Panthers are in on Lloyd, but just like Milton Williams if the numbers get too high they will change course and still sign one of the lesser ILB. I've also seen reports Panthers want boom back as well, but as STer/backup.   Personally Ive put Wallance in the Ickey, Brooks zone....... Acting like he's not on the team and if he shows out during OTAs, mini, and TC GREEEAT!!! I feel Panthers need to sign at least one and draft 1-2....hell even add another Bam-like UDFA in the UD pool too. Trade is on the table, there have been many trades than past years......   Given the team history, the LB corp is saddest ever. Still the league isnt paying ILB and Panthers finally got with that trend. I do feel Evero wants a IBL that can blitz and everyone wants one able to pass cover.  I feel no matter what, Panthers will draft one in the mid rounds and add a couple in the UDFA class.
