They also asked him to evaluate the QB’s and he loved Penix Jr.  Loves his experience, arm strength, touch.

If somehow MPJ drops out of the 1st round we have a serious decision to make IMO.

I haven’t really looked at the QBs except just a little looking into Rattler.

My first thoughts, without looking at Penix Jr, lead me to...  spending 33 on a QB - that’s your top pick two year in a row.

It is a huge statement. It screams flat out replacement ASAP. I am a charter member of the hard core buh bye Bryce bunch, but it is a very heavy handed thing where you probably dead end Bryce whether Penix Jr is the guy or not. And the effect on the team psyche is, well the potential for dysfunction is high. Maybe not the best approach.

Unless Penix Jr is Really The Guy. In which case, I am like Bryce freaking who? You mean our overpaid backup?

Edit: I think what I am trying to say is ity shouldn’t cost that  much to replace Bryce, in my mind.

But the goal isn’t really just to get over that bar by a little, it is to get The Guy. But I definitely want them to put some competition in his path. I am gonna watch some Penix Jr stuff.

I don't know if we should do that if you think about it a little deeper Canales isn't tied to Bryce at all. You build your team the best way you are fit. And nowadays we've seen second year QBs who can't get it done get benched and eventually moved in from rather quickly. We end up in the top 3 next year and Bryce still looks overwhelmed I'm sure we'll be looking towards a young stud.

I agree with this lets grab the best stud available Bryce just has to get it done with much better blocking and better weapons out the ball where it needs to be, just be the Bryce we saw at Bama.

Canales will be looking at the next crop of QB's in case Young fails as he did in year one. I won't say Young will be pulled quickly cause Tepper is going to give him every chance to be the Number 1 QB in Carolina, but if he flops. I see another QB picked next year to give him competition. We also need to see if the new OL additions are going to perform to what we paid them or will we be disappointed again and watch Young running for his life as the walls come crashing in as last year. The first 5 games are going to be interesting.

It’s possible to have a passable offense with Young at QB, but it will be all about that point guard stuff. Which, when a guy makes a play that is exciting.

Mainly I am curious to find out the method of exchange from C to QB. What Young’s drops look like.

If they are doing anything about under center - becoming able to snap it gun or hand to hand fluidly switching, and integrate that with play action

That sauntering slowly away from the LOS ’technique’? A mandatory option?

Coulda just kept Kyle Allen/DJ Moore/CMC if we just needed a point guard. He actually had nicer throws in 2019 than anything Bryce has put on NFL tape

Im about 98% sure penix gos 15th-32nd in the first, jmo...I'd even bet on that too. Hes my weakness of boom/bust, if he figures it out......It would be scary for any team playing him.

I mean young has to get another year given all the BS and I totally get the the issue if he was there 33rd. Id draft him, but you'd HAVE to trade young before unless you'd want to de-value him by a few rounds. Top eight pick with the guaranteed penix would be at 33rd......ooo my the amount of should/if/etc....

    • The good news is that we are pretty uniquely well established to address all of our needs this season. We have $14m real cap space, and something like $40m in trade deadline cap space. Not sure exactly how that works out. But, we have the room to absorb any bad contracts. With recent rule changes regarding retention, that went into effect this season, we now have a huge advantage in the trade market.  On top of that, while we do have obvious needs, we also have a glut of talent in certain areas that we struggle to find ice time for. We are over-stocked on scrappy talented lil-guys, strong defensively sound 3rd liners and shutdown left shot dmen. Whether it's a package or separate deals, idk. But, one of each from Stank/Blake/Nads, Erob/Carrier/KK/Jank, and Walker/Nystrom; throw in some 1st round picks (and frankly any other prospects they want) and we should be able to come out with a 1b to pair with Bussi and either a 2c with size or a 2c and size.   TL/DR We got the money, you got the stuff?
    • I don’t  think 6’4 was ever considered small or undersized. Baby hands tho, yes that was his thing That’s an interesting idea, like an optical illusion? Sounds like you have personal experience with this!
    • in the 25' draft the Carolina Panthers had hired Brandt Tillis someone who actually understood how to build a successful team & build through the draft .  this team was yes mismanaged for years prior to Brandt Tillis joining the team in 25' & rarely done anything right in the draft outside occaionaly getting lucky on an UDFA such as Jalen Coker who's dad coincidentally happened to be a huge Carolina Panthers fan, hint hint  ...just saying
