Ted Ginn Write up per CincyJungle

Ick.

Funny Cribbs just got a 3 year 20 million dollar deal and most think it was well deserved (I don't really). Is he really that much better of a returner. It sure as hell wasn't for his receiving ability (only averaged 6.9 YPC last year).

People look at the fact that Ginn sucks balls as a reciever and completly ignore how dynamic of a returner is. That is where his value is and I believe he is worth a million a year not to mention we probably could restructure it. He is worth a 5th (or I guess a 6th and a 6th next year since we don't have one).

i'm confused. is the writer saying that's a lot of money? i thought that was chump change for an nfl player. isn't that only about double the minimum for a player with his experience?

why would anyone wait to see if he's released just to save 500 grand? he's one of the best return men in the league. that's about cheap as fudge.

Thats what I am saying. He is worth that just to be a KR. And he does bring some value as a receiver (not much) but he could at least bring us a good deep threat. Maybe Tolbert can work on his hands and RR and he might be salvageable.

His speed alone opens up smitty in the slot .. you send ginny pig streaking down the field and tadah to a 15 + yard curl / slant to smith for a first

If he would have went in the 2nd or 3rd like he should have people would be salivating to get a returner on the level of Hester or Cribbs. Its like the fact that he is such a huge bust for a top 10 pick that people fail to see that he is a probably the 3rd or 4th best returner in the league.

Man you people are picky as hell. I want our team to get better but don't want to get a guy that will bring a solid ST threat and a be decent receiver for a late round pick. Our return game has been average to abysmal since the days of Smith. If our team had a great return game it could really do wonders for a young QB.

3rd or 4th best returner based on what exactly? Last year was the first year Ginn finished in the top 20 in Yards per Return...at # 13 (Cribbs finished 3rd)

He's scored 2 KOR TD's in his career (both in the same game). In the same time period, Cribbs scored 6. The highest Ginn return avg was 24.9 y/rt. The lowest Cribbs ever averaged was 24.3 y/rt (his highest being an eye popping 30.7 y/rt)

So please. Enlighten us picky ones how Ginn is clearly the 3rd or 4th best returner in the league.

Or are you referring to his amazing 5.6 y/rt on punts?

    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
    • I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
    • Yea Bryce was definitely a top half qb the second half of last season but I'm not sure Canales is 100% sold on him.  Like I've said in another post I think that's part of why we talked to so many South Carolina players in the draft process.  I think they are doing early due diligence on Sellers just in case.
