Why does there always have to be a Hornets tie in?

Every time you pick up the Charlotte Observer these days or watch the local sports news, when the subject of the Bobcats and the playoffs come up there is always some sort of Hornets tie in...

I'm sick of hearing about the Hornets, I'm done with them just like they're done with me and the city of Charlotte. I get it, the Hornets were here and they were pretty good. My ex-girlfriend was a pretty good lay but I didn't bother mentioning that when I met my next girlfriend. When the Hornets left, I balled up all my Hornets gear and threw it in the trash, not out of hurt, but because the Hornets were no longer relevant to me.

I think most Bobcats fans are tired of hearing about the Hornets, I'm not sure why the local sports media continues to shove them down our throats? This is the Bobcats time now, let's bury all this talk of the Hornets once and for all. Maybe we should organize a ceremony uptown where everyone can bring whatever Hornets gear they have and throw it in some sort of mass grave to bury the memory of the Charlotte Hornets in effigy.

Because alot of people in this area stopped following the NBA when the Hornets left town, so thats their only reference point to NBA basketball.

The local newspaper talks about the Hornets because they resent the Bobcats ownership group and dont respect the legacy they are trying to establish. They do respect and adore the Hornets legacy and have alot more respect for their founder, and it shows. What was one of the main names recommended during the Observer's self promoted "Name Change" debate? Yup, you guessed it, the Hornets. If you give them the option of praising the work Bob Johnson & Michael Jordan have done the past 6 years or praising what Shinn did 20 years ago, they're gonna go with the local good ole boy everytime. Thats how it works round here.

CatMan Im glad you've picked up on this, I made a thread about this a few weeks ago and dudes jumped on me and tried to act like it aint real, but its VERY REAL and it makes our city look very bad. Im actually glad the paper keeps doing this cuz they keep proving me right that they are biased as fug and need a more diverse writing staff.

I'm pretty damn sick of hearing how "good" they were. They never got past the second round. N E V E R ! !

Think about that. That means the first year they made the playoffs and won in the first round would be the farthest they would ever get. INCLUDING the years in New Orleans.

Yes, they had a winning record for 10 straight years. But during that period so did 9 other teams. Every one of those 9 other teams made the NBA Finals. Not only did the Hornets not make the NBA Finals, they didn't even make the Conference Finals.

I feel like I have to remind everyone how mediocre they actually were in the playoffs which is what really counts.

Well, looks like the Cats will just have to get past the 2nd round then huh?? :D

Yup, the Hornets have been around for 22 years and still haven't done it. So the 'Cats have at least until 2026 to do it.

It would be sweet if the 'Cats make it to the Conference Finals before the Hornets do . . .

    • Yeah, I've been torn up all week about this. And I'm going to be honest, you and I don't know poo about what is going on with the team. Are they losing the locker room? Not seeing anything from the players about that, just seeing it on forums like this. Are they concerned? Yeah, I'd think that would be a reasonable assumption. Are they rallying around Bryce? Yeah, that I'm seeing from the stuff we see of the players. Is some of it a bit drummed up, quite possibly. Is some of it genuine care and belief in their teammate, yeah most definitely. What is Morgan going to do? Hell, that was just week 1. And week one is often a liar. Once in a while it tells the truth (and that sure was an ugly one to tell last Sunday). Most often, it's just what it is. Half the teams that played in week one lost. Straight down the middle. Sometimes it was a close game, sometimes it was a blowout. We got punched in the face, had our lunch money stolen and Jacksonville kissed our girlfriend.  Me, I saw a team that wasn't up to speed yet. We were playing like this was the fourth pre-season game like we used to have. We're going to learn a lot about Bryce, this team, our coaching and team management after this week's game. It's against the Cardinals, a team that has always been one of those benchmarks for it. Beat them and good things happen (remember that killer game Julius Peppers had against them), lose and it often starts the fast slide to the bottom again (sadly, that playoff game with Jake...). Right now, the Cardinals have their Bryce Young, except their guy still has a better PR department. They have a meh-ish defense. They have a star WR that is underperforming and was possibly over-drafted. They don't have many stars to speak of and dwell around 3rd-4th place in their division on a regular basis. In other words, they are pretty much on par with us. And they are a forgotten team as well, playing games in obscurity. So, yeah, we're going to learn the tale of the season this weekend. And honestly, if we lose like we just did or worse, and I was Dan Morgan, I'd be working on polishing up that resume`.
    • Lol I don’t understand why everyone is liking that post and quoting it, it’s from last season. Did I miss something?
    • At this point, I don't want anymore fools gold from Young. He either needs to be in the MVP conversation  (lol) or I want to get blown out every game until he is off the team. Our front office just isn't bright enough to handle anything in between.
