Edwards' grade at NFL.com was 4.2

he was drafted amongst players ranked in the mid to upper 6's.

why didn't we wait until the 4th or even 5th? why give up a second round pick for a 4.2 graded player?

i see his potential. i understand why we have him and think he'll be able to contribute but giving up a second round pick where we could get a player graded in the mid to upper 7's next year, to move up to take a player graded 4.2 this year just seems a little wacky!

i'd rather have the top DT or DB available at the time than have a guy to run gimmick wildcard plays.

dude please. why must we go through this. hes listed as a 4.2 as a QB. hes NOT playing QB. so thats your first problem. second problem is, we picked mid 4th round, and there was no guarantee he would have fell to us. sometimes i think some of you look for something to complain about. its not that bad a move.

i agree. He has natural play-making ability and is a specialist/hybrid type (which we needed). I think its a solid move. Our FO is showing us the confidence they have in this kid by doing this.

okay so do you think that Edwards is better than a player we would have gotten in the second next year? Anyone that argues that we couldnt have gotten a better player with next years 2 is delusional. One of the drawbacks of having a coach without a longterm contract is that the interest of management and the organization are not the same. this trade is good for Fox/Hurney but bad for the organization in the long run.

how the HELL do you know whats good or bad for this organization in the long run. for crying out loud we don't have a second round pick. So damn what! i so sick of all the crying. we dont even know what he can do. as much as he can suck, he can also end up being the best slot receiver in the league. we dont know, but im not going to sit here and piss on what fox/hurney did. its ridiculous. let the kid get on the field, then whine

Depends on where were picking next year, how good armanti is. Who would be left where we pick next year in the second........Lots of variables there. Say if Armanti catches 300 yards of passes, rushes for 100 and has 2200 yards total counting PR & KR with 4-5 Td's....I'd say no....

So no definite answer on that question. Most likely though, I'd say yes.

    • Absolutely. He just turned 27 a few days ago, so quite young. He and Moehrig would be quite the pairing.  I know we say this every year, but this FA period has A LOT of talent that will be switching uniforms. We were aggressive last year and have no doubt this time next week will have some studs on defense.
    • DJ Moore has always been a bit of an enigma. He came here young, flashed a ton of potential, but never truly grew into a real #1. He’s had a few good reasons, but yet to have a real monster season (outside of his first year with Chicago) We’re still waiting for him to blossom, but he will be 29 next season. I fear that it is too late for him at this point.
    • I have considered free agency.  LT?  Either not good enough or too expensive.  Besides, this is a good OT draft.  (I would rather have a free agent, mind you, but the Panthers' reality suggests we can't do it without neglecting other positions).  What LTs are available in free agency, and what do you expect to pay?  Any Ickey-level OT is going to cost over $20m.   How much do we already have invested in our OL?  I get your point, but I do not think you can spend over $100m per on your OL. We have 2 guards and a right T who pull in about $75m per season.  We don't have a center yet.  Teams just don't let good LTs hit free agency, and when one does on rare occasion, he is expensive.  If you want a third of the Panther cap going to 5 Offensive Linemen, free agency is the way to go.  We still need S, ILB, Edge, WR, etc. I think we'd need more than Nijman--and I would understand if we went free agent for a T--but that is putting a TON of your cap at OL--so considering our situation, I do not see that option as preferable.  You may disagree. If I was not talking LT on our line and thinking about the cap, I would agree 100%.
