One huge problem w/ the QB situation

CRA

yes, he is getting paid to teach him what to do on the field. He can't teach him everything about being an NFL QB.....it is more than just learning the offense, mechanics, and what to do on the field. you are really missing the point.....Jake's role to Moore wasn't too show him mechanics and all that jazz....his role was showing Moore what being an NFL QB is about and that aspect has nothing to so w/ mechanics and being on a football field. It ain't that hard to grasp that concept.

Aaron Rodgers didn't have the concerns coming into the league and needing work on those type aspects.....those type aspect also didn't cause Rogers to have an epic fall in an NFL draft.

So as an NFL QB you need to learn a few things, such as: mechanics, how to read defenses, etc.. what exactly do you think a vet leader is going to teach a rookie that a QB coach cannot?

my bad, i guess I missed where Rip was an NFL QB. But I guess he can tell Clausen how to do all the things to gain over an NFL lockerroom and be that guy....despite never having done it.

lol, Smitty? Smitty isn't even a good mentor for young WRs to date. But I guess, he will teach Clausen what an NFL QB is about....

What does being a former N F L QB have to do with coaching ?

Several former N F L QB's could not coach a player if they had a hand book to teach them!

You say Clausen has all the Skills on the field but lacks only Leadership.

Coache's and vet Players will MOTIVATE him to be a leader.

May take a little time if you believe all you read.

But explain how A college QB that is involved on ever offense snap is not a leader !

Jake or a Vet you say has great leadership skills they can teach .

How many seasons did it take JAKE to become a leader ?

Also those VETS have seen a lot of the bad and can pass on BAD habits to a rookie QB

Just having a Vet QB does not gurantee the rookie will learn !

you don't teach people how to lead a team.. there isn't a textbook that vet QBs pass along to rookie QBs.. hell, he can go buy a Tony Robbins cd if he need to.. The self-help industry is over loaded with content on how to lead.. if it comes to that lol

to think the QB coach is absolutely ignorant to helping a rookie QB lead a team is naive..

If your point is that it would be convenient to have a vet leader to help the rookie out, then I agree with you. it would be convenient..

but if your point is that the QB coach has no idea how to instill leadership qualities in a rookie, then you're missed a few pages from a QB coaches resume... At the NFL level, the qb coach isn't just some guy who comes in on the weekends to teach mechanics and bounces.. he teaches every aspect of the position, not just parts you fail to recognize.. :)

Ahhh the ol "we need a washed up QB to teach these young QBs how to play despite the fact that the washed up QB doesn't even know how to throw to his own team" argument. If only Joe Flacco had one of those he wouldnt suck so much. Oh wait nvm, he's been great despite having Joe Beck and Troy Smith as his backups during his career.

at 20 something years old and fresh out of college did Rip ever take a leadership role as QB in the NFL to a bunch of older and grown men....and get them to believe in him and and respect him? Jimmy has a LOT to learn....even in a 10 minute clip of sitting w/ Gruden you can tell he is miles away from being able to deal w/ a lockerroom full of NFL players. No, that is not all my evidence, just the last bit of glaring info that shows he lacks in some areas.....

at this level, you aren't going to learn everything about the QB position from your QB coach......and from a retired ND guy that use to play here. No matter how you want to look at it, with Clausen's background, he needs a vet. To argue he (Clausen) doesn't need that, again.....there isn't much to support that logic.

pointing out Clausen has a lot to learn is irrelevant to your point on whether a QB coach knows how to teach leadership.. yes, he has a lot to learn. having a vet QB isn't the only person on the team who has any sense of instilling leadership qualities in rookies. so you're entire post didn't explain how a QB coach isn't just as capable to teach this stuff as a vet leader..

pointing out "at 20 something years old and fresh out of college did Rip ever take a leadership role as QB in the NFL to a bunch of older and grown men....and get them to believe in him and and respect him?" didn't explain anything to me.. you threw out an ambiguous statement that says nothing.. also, it's more likely that he has learned these things and that you're making assumptions based on what? nothing but what ifs? and do you think?

I disagree.. so, moving along.. lol

Bingo that is the reason you have QB coaches. Also if Clausen plays this year he is going to have a small playbook. They wont give him to much free way on what he can do.

plus clausen is familiar with our system. he was coached by weis. davidson worked for weis and runs a similar system here with the panthers. clausen will fit in just fine and should be ahead of the curve.

he'll be the starter by season's end and it wouldn't be a shock for him to take it over in preseason and open week 1.

LOL, hysterical. Duuuuuuude. I already told you what Rip does. He does a lot. Is good at it. Never once claimed he was ignorant and couldn't help Clausen. YOU, are the one claiming Rip can teach him EVERYTHING he would need (along w/ a retired Panther who has already gone on record he has had multiple opinions on the kid)......I disgaree w/ that logic.

Rip can not teach him the same things as an actual NFL QB who has actually done it and experienced the things that having nothing to do w/ being on a football field. Clausen, has a long history of those type things being an issue for him ....that is why it is why having a legit vet is more than just "something nice to have". Again, why did he fall in the draft to us?

yeah, I guess it is hysterical to think an NFL QB coach needs to learn a thing or 2 about every aspect of being an NFL QB... god forbid if they start requiring QB coaches to know how to teach NFL QBs how to play in an NFL game and lead a team to victory..

I'm sure that's why they get paid as much as they do and why every team budgets an average NFL vet QB to do what they are paying the QB coach to do..

what if Rip Scherer played Quarterback and learned a thing or 2 about leading a team instead of picking up a manual off the shelf?

experience over reading textbooks, right?

I'm just curious about something.

A lot of people are questioning his maturity and leadership. Can anyone point to any actual person with experience playing or working with him who questions his maturity and leadership? Are there any ex-ND players out there who feel like he's lacking in either area that are willing to say so? What about coaches? Anyone?

It's easy to engage in character assassination, and when it works it works well. But it's not always founded in fact, and maybe this time the Panthers are the big beneficiaries of such a campaign.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
