Chris Harris Traded For LB Jamar Williams

[bears fan here, hoping to give you some perspective]

When team management is under fire, generally any move they make gets roasted by fans as another horrible mistake in a line of horrible mistakes. It happens with Carolina fans, Chicago fans, and pretty much every where else that hasn't won a SuperBowl recently.

Jamar Williams was drafted to replace Lance Briggs several years back when Lance was claiming he'd "played his last game in a Bears uniform" -- clearly that didn't turn out as expected.

Every time Jamar has had the chance to play as a WLB, he's flashed skills. In previous years, he's been touted by the Bears as the 4th LB, and has backed up all 3 starting LB positions, despite the fact that physically, he's far better suited to playing on the weak side in space than being a strong-side backer or MLB. Williams is incredibly athletic, and will be able to start for the Panthers rather than languishing in Briggs' shadow. He's talented enough that he can readily start as a 4-3 WLB or an 3-4 ILB without much difficulty -- you're going to be surprised by this guy.

Jamar Williams....is that you?

As Bears fan, I think you guys got a better player than you think. After his rookie year, coaches were impressed and it was being groomed to take over for Briggs, who at one point was assumed to leave via FA.

He played a couple of games last year and played very well. I think he will be a solid starting LB for you. Yes, he has failed to crack the starting lineup for 5 years, but he is strictly a WLB in our defense and the guy playing ahead of him every year.

So that means he won't beat T Davis for playing time at all and again we are back too the fact we gave you a starter and 1 of the leaders of our defence for a back-up.

Dumbass FO!!!!!1:dupe::dupe:

We liked Harris for what he did the first year and he said the right things. Never saw that first year production again (maybe he needs rejection motivation) and he has not been saying the right things lately. Many here have been talking about how all the young guys need veteran leadership. Well, worse than no leadership is someone setting the wrong example.

Harris did not live up to his earlier performance with the Panthers. Don't know if his statements had anything to do with the final decision but if so, not a bad decision either.

Foxball and days of tenured starting spots are over. I think a starting spot on this team will be earned every week. Competition will be healthy and infuse new energy on this team. This team is willing to make bold moves, even if not predictable or popular. I am going along for the ride. I believe Mr. Richardson has a plan and I will like where this team is headed.

Thanks Chris Harris for a great first year with this team. Good luck with the Bears.

Harris is a cool guy and he was good his first year here. But he has regressed on the field and I'm sorry that you guys follow him on Twitter, but he's really not very good.

I think its not that he is not good... He really did well in Trgos system but Meeks wants DBs that can ball hawk and can cover. Chis Harris was good as any in the box but was a shaky at best with coverage. Still I think we would have kept him if he wanted to stay. Dude made it clear in the off-season he was not happy. The FO saw a opportunity to get a good LB and they took it.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
