Matt Moore's Blog

I am sure that he had some help writing his blog, but it is nice to see a professional athlete than can write better than an average third grader.

Go read some of Dwight Howard's postings and it is clear that he couldn't have went to college had he wanted to.

When I first got here I had Jake Delhomme and a lot of older guys, they were always offering to lend me a hand. I know how much I appreciated it, so that’s the way I want to be with these guys. They can come to me for anything.

Yes full of hate and venom....:willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

lol, good selection Kurb.

What about the first 2 paragraphs?

I knew we needed some new blood and that the team was going to take a quarterback. It’s been real quiet in the quarterback room with just me and Hunter Cantwell. So when Clausen fell as far as he did in the draft, I kind of figured it would be a serious possibility that the Panthers would take him.

Hey, I thought it might happen and it did and honestly I didn’t think too much about it. Right now I’m the starting quarterback and I hope to keep it that way. The best guy is going to play, whoever produces and puts the team in the best position to win ballgames is going to be the one out on the field, that’s the way this league works. I understand that. All I’m focused on doing is what I’ve been doing. I’m not worried about what everyone is talking about as far as my playing time.

Yeah he handled it well overall. Just the first few statements stuck out to me. Playing basketball, I know how it feels to be the incumbent guy and have the coach bring in guys to try and take your spot. It pisses you off, you can be politically correct all you want, but inside you're really pissed off. Especially when you were just under the assumption that you had been given the job.

Some of the edge is taken off if the incoming competition acts more like a teammate and less like a jealous douche.

I think they'll get along well as far as I can see. I just know as a competitor, Moore wants to win the job and shove their face in the dirt... Then he'll be there for them if they need anything lol.

Venom? I didn't see any venom.

He's just answering the question "Are you ok with new QBs?".

To which he gives a very professional, level headed response, which came across as honest, understanding, and accepting.

Hell, he goes on to give both new guys props.

Venom... I'll tell ya what venom is... it would have been this:

Hey, I'm Matt Moore, STARTING QB for the Carolina Panthers.

Want to know how I feel about new QBs? I'll tell you.

Coach and the GM are out of their minds for drafting QBs. Me and Hunter have this. They are rookie pond scum that won't see a single regular season snap.

Who knows, maybe they can get some more Wide Receivers for me next year when they are traded.

Now THAT would have been Venom.

    • Why do you say that. What leads you to think that we, as supporters, think his ceiling is 10-12. That's a ridiculous assumption on your part. The Seahawks won the SB with Darnold passing for 25 TD's, 14 Ints with a 99.1 rating for the season.  The Panthers with Young were at 23 TD's, 11 Ints and a 78.8 rating for the season. Not that far off. The problem with all the Young discourse around here is the assumption that the QB is the sole determining factor for a teams success. That just isn't true and it's certainly not how Morgan and Tilis are building the Panthers.
    • Do we pay based on how many wins or how many games Bryce led us to wins? We've spent quite a bit on defense this year and hopefully they're much improved. If the Panthers do get to 10 wins, but Bryce has another year like last year where he showed up big in a couple, was present in a few, and forgettable in most, do we still pay him 50m per year?  I keep bringing it up because I think it's relevant, but Bryce was outplayed by a 6m per year backup last year. I don't see how it's possible to pay a top tier QB contract to someone who's putting up backup QB production.
    • I understand tempering expectations, but there are some issues with his points. Walker was a 3 year starter, but Green Bay let him walk and no other team was quick to snatch him up. That says something. Freeling will compete to start. With Hunter, we rotate our linemen and even 5th round pick Cam Jackson played some meaningful snaps last year. Both Brown III and Wharton have underwhelmed since we picked them up. Hunter is a run plugger that we have needed. Hunter will play early, even if he isn't the "starter." Brazzell was described as one of Canales' favorite prospects in the draft and he has a speed element we have been missing. I think Canales is going to have plays drawn up with Brazzell on the field just out of pure excitement. It will be up to Brazzell to prove he can handle it, though. If he can, he will play. As far as our secondary picks, yeah they have to earn their stripes and Evero tends to lean on veterans. So they might take time, but if they can show they can play, they will see the field. Smith-Wade and Ransom did. Sam Hecht simply has to show he can handle the mental side of the NFL game. If he can, he is in a direct competition with Fortner, who's also relatively young, but also on his 3rd NFL team and doesn't have the power profile of Hecht.  I can appreciate that Gantt wants to pour cold water on what was perceived as an impactful draft, but facts are facts.
