Some more NFC South stats I dug up.

a couple of decades isn't bad when you consider that only a handful of teams have won the sb in that time.

Do you think Tampa fans would agree with you about right now? The reason that I ask is that it is easy for a fan to say that the year after winning thw SB. Hell, any of us automatically think that a SB is going to be the ultimate prize. However, when you start to dig deeper, what fans ultimately want is a team that they can be proud of. We want a team that has respect around the league. Do you think Raiders fans are particularly proud of their team right now? Do you see them pointing to the Lombardi of years past? How about when San Fran was a laughing stock? Are Redskins fans still content with pining over the 80s?

Of course not. And that is why the discussion is relevant. That isn't to say that the Lombardi is irrelevant. But to say that nothing else matters is simply kidding ourselves.

hey guys can i trade the lombardi for some percentage points

thx

You can keep your lombardi kid. In fact, I wouldnt trade our slightly better win percentage for all the lombardi trophies in the world. Winning the super bowl only means you were good for one season. Slightly better win percentages last a LIFE TIME!!!!

I need to correct myself from an earlier post. The falcons and bucs have actually had 4 winning seasons since 2002 and the saints and panthers have had 3. For those that keep saying we're usually the most consistent team in the division you may want to rethink that.

I was gonna correct you on that, but I decided to let it slide. But the Falcons are the only ones nobody has vouched for yet, so they're not even in the talk.

Hi ive been a browser here a few years and finally decided it was time to post. Just wondering most people consider great teams for what they do in the post season. How does the division stack up against each other since re alignment in 2002?

Man, you sure are good at dodging real points and arguments and making unintelligent off-topic remarks.

Wow. Cable must be out today....

Let me make this very easy. Each year, one team wins, and 31 teams lose. How well you did leading up to that last game doesn't mean squat if you lose that last game. Ask New England how 18 wins stack up against 1 loss.

Bottom line- how many Lombardi Trophys do we have? That's how many "winning seasons" we have. Being the tallest midget or the smartest retard is not a valid argument.

What Urry said.

Going by a win percentage, we're about average. Going by SB appearances in the past 10 years, we're #1. Each team has made a SB appearance since 1999.

The only points and arguments anyone made was that we have a slightly better win percentage and less double digit loss seasons than anyone else so that must make us the best team in the south. Those are not valid arguments to distinguish us from the rest of the division. :

Fact: The bucs and falcons have had more winning seasons than us.

Fact: The bucs and saints have each won a super bowl and in the bucs case have won more division titles

All four teams are relatively close in wins and losses. The deciding factor shouldnt be who had the least amount of double digit losses. 7-9 is not much better than 6-10 and the panthers have had several of those. The REAL deciding factor is championships wether your blind homer fandom allows you to accept that or not that is reality.

You accuse me of not knowing anything and then you make this crazy remark? Is the offense better without Delhome? Yes! Are they the best team in the division on paper because of that? Hell no! Not only are they not the best team in the south on paper but they're not even the 2nd best team in the south. The saints are bringing back the same roster that went 13-3 and won the super bowl. The falcons who were already better than us to begin with brought in Dante Robinson and had a hell of a draft. The panthers are relying on too many career backups and rookies to be able to say they are the best on paper. The only thing you can say is that right now on paper the panthers are completely unknown.

Well the Panthers brought back the same roster (21 of 22 starters) and we were 12-4 that year, IIRC. We were better than the Saints that season who went 8-8. We had high expectations this season but we failed. I think the Saints will go the same route.

You're comparing apples to oranges. The panthers were returning with same defense that struggled in 08 and they were returning with arguably the worst starting qb in the nfl. The saints are returning with same defense that lead the nfl in takeaways and arguably the best qb in the nfl. I don't see brees turning into jake anytime soon

On the other hand, our pass defense and our RB tandem were two of the best in the NFL back then (And still are now). We had the same thing going for us, and we dropped off thanks to Shaky Jake and injuries.

There were parts of our defense and offense that were good. The running game should still be good but we dont know enough about the new receiving core to say they will be good too. Defensively no matter what anyone thinks we are definitely worse without Peppers and harris. I expect our secondary to take a big step back with a struggling defensive line and without the presence of Harris who was the leader of the unit. People who want to dismiss how good those two players were are only in denial
