Imagine this, if you will...

So let's suppose for a moment that new starting QB Matt Moore struggles badly this season.

Even worse, suppose he's replaced by Jimmy Clausen, and the heralded rookie also looks bad.

Further imagine that former Panther Jake Delhomme starts leading the Browns to the kind of victories he used to help produce down here.

Ouch :(

Couldn't happen, you say? Believe me, it could. Kurt Warner was a shell of himself before reigniting his career in Arizona. Likewise, plenty of guys that had once looked washed-up have found new life with a simple change of geography and structure.

So if this worst case scenario occurs, what will the fan reaction be like? Will people come in and decry that we gave up on Delhomme too early? Will they second guess the team for cutting ties rather than keeping Delhomme as at least a backup option?

They will...

But they shouldn't :nonod:

Given everything that we saw up through the end of last year, moving on from Delhomme was the right thing to do. Yes, it could turn out to be wrong, but even if it does, you can't really blame the team for making that decision. Since none of Dionne Warwick's friends works for the Panthers, they have to go on what they know (and what they know said "let him go").

The unpredictable is commonplace in the NFL. It's what makes any offseason so full of hope. This particular break also happened to be full of change, and change that was warranted by the events that preceded it. The events that will succeed it are anybody's guess.

But make no mistake. Even if the eventual outcome might make it seem otherwise, the Panthers did the right thing.

    • Oh I was.  But we still had great players.
    • You keep AT unless he WANTS to get traded to a contender during the season.  He's valuable, TET, XL, and Coker need to learn how to be PROFESSIONALS on game day, practice, and the off-season.  That's what you get from AT.  ADDITIONALLY, he is clutch.  He is steady.  At is that savvy vet who will always flash. I really think they keep 7 WR's if Brycen can operate on special teams.  Week 1 you may see us heavy on WR and OL because of the massive amount of injuries across the league.  Renfrow may even be cool starting on the PS since he lives close and wouldn't need to uproot his family.  You can still make nearly 400K as a vested veteran on an NFL practice squad.  You see more veterans hanging around since the age limit was lifted. I think the 1st 53 and PS looks like so...... Offense: (25) QB (2) Young / Dalton RB (3) Chuba/Rico/Etienee WR (7) T-Mac/XL/AT/Coaker/Renfrow/JHjr/Brycen TE (3) Tremble/Sanders/Evans OL (10) Icky/Lewis/Corbett/Hunt/Moten/Brady/Mayes/Yosh/Zavala/Kingston Defense: (25) DL: (6) Brown/Robinson/Turk/Bobby B/Cam Jackson/Sam Roberts OLB: (5) Wonnom/PJ2/NicSic/Princely/Incoon ILB: (5) Rozeboom/TW/Windmon/Cherelus/Bam CB: (5) Horn/MJ/CSW/Thorton/Evans S: (4) Tre'Mo/Ransom/Demani/Scott Specialists: (3) JJ/Fitz/Martin Last spot: Right now I have it as a toss up between DJ Johnson and Bam.  Until NicSic can come back we need an extra edge.  Do we utilize TW more as a blitzer from the middle to keep Bam safe?  I'm not worried about DJJ getting picked up from another team, a little more concerned with Bam. Practice Squad: DavidMoore/JamesMitchell/JacolbyGeorge/Tuttle/Crumdley/Ray/DJJohnson/Kantra/Carter/Blacksheer/ Wright/KrysBarnes/MichaelReid/Safety pick up/RB pick up/QB pick up
