Twitter Campaign Wants 'Community' Actor to Be First Non-White Spider-Man

The origins of this latest attempt by social media users to influence casting decisions occurred last week. After surveying the five mostly unknown white actors said to be vying for the role, Marc Bernadin, a writer for the sci-fi site io9.com, called the choices "bland" and asked, "In this day and age, why does Spidey have to be a white guy?" In response, commenters threw out Donald Glover's name as a possible contender, and a Twitter campaign was born.

Dammit, now this is gettiing ridiculous. They already brother-ized the Green Lantern, Cat Woman, and Nick Fury. Why do we have to change the race of a (for lack of a better word) literary character because it's "in this day in age?" Whatever the hell that means.

Okay, diversity, you can have Spider-Man. In exchange, we want Patrick Dempsey to play Blade. In this Day in Age, why does Blade have to be black? Sure there's already 3 movies and countless comic book series portraying him as a black man, but who'd notice if all of a sudden he pulled a Michael Jackson and turned white overnight?

    • I suppose it depends on what you mean as 'elite'. I typically mean someone that can play with lower level pieces around them and still win. There are very few of those.
    • It would obviously be incredible if Brooks came back and just ran away with the job on his opportunities like Rico Dowdle did last year. But any Panthers fan that has been around the block knows better than to go ahead and make plans for that. Brooks has missed a ton of not just playing time but meaningful early career growth in a league that has increasingly devalued the position from an investment standpoint beyond one or two superstars. There's really not any comparison to look back on that lines up with the current iteration of the league at least not favorably. The key thing that this RB room has going for them is our investment in the OL. The highest paid OL in the league two years in a row paired with our staff should make it easier for just about any RB to get into open running lanes. But that is also anything but a given considering our OL was largely middle of the pack last year. In the end it might all be a moot point anyways if we again struggle to establish a viable passing attack.
    • I don't have him making the team and I think same goes for the staff, but they are hopeful for a PS spot.    I mean of course I'd like 3 all-world at RB and every spot, just doesn't work that why. Panthers normally carry 3. dan always talk up Etienne, even called him a future star.....I think Brooks will be fine as a 2 with health pls.....  Chubba can carry a seasons load as lead dawg.    Its fine, I mean backup OGs or CB is much higher on my worry scale(Id even put QB room as worse than RB room too...)
