So I just went to this place in Raleigh called Boylan Bridge Brew-Pub. They brew their own beer in house. I just had one of the best stouts I've ever had. It's called the Southbound Milkstout. If any of you are ever around Raleigh give it a try. It tastes a lot like the Old Rasputin; Blasphemy I know Beaux but it is damn good. :)

Nothing compares to Old Rasputin! ;)

I went to Brewgrass in Asheville this weekend and had a great time. My favorite beer was actually a milk stout. Duck Rabbit had their milk stout aged in bourbon barrels. Man, it was fantastic. Foothills Sexual Chocolate was great, as always. COAST's new Event Horizon was good. New South Brewing out of Myrtle Beach had a nitrogen-carbonated IPA that was nice.

Honestly, though, there weren't a lot of beers that really stood out as much as those. Still, I got to try a lot of local and regional beers that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to try, as most were draft only at their respective brewpubs.

I didn't get around to the COAST tent in time to try their barrel-aged Blackbeerd, which was unfortunate. Oh well, I do have a bottle in the fridge I've been anxious to try!

:cheers2:

I finally found this year's Founders Breakfast Stout. I wanted to give it another try, since I was disappointed after trying it for the first time last November. When I first had it, I didn't get a strong coffee flavor, and if anything it tasted sort of ashy.

I really wanted to like it, knowing it was so highly-regarded, and coffee and imperial stouts are among my favorite styles.

Anyway, down to brass tax. I had it again tonight and enjoyed it. I still don't think there's a ton of coffee flavor in this beer, but it is good. As far as coffee stouts go, I prefer Terrapin's "Wake 'n Bake" and Dieu du Ciel's Peche Mortel.

Still, it's got a nice bitterness to it and is worth a buy if you're in to the style. I just don't know if I'll buy more than this four-pack this season. Of course, most people love this beer, so take that for what it's worth.

Well gents,

I'm officially "on the wagon" for a few months. Woke up one day last week and discovered that I couldn't get my belt fastened.

Trainer told me that at the end of the 90 day program he wont run me till I puke if I have a drink but until Christmas its T-Totaler or he'll make me pay.

Here's to the hop-heads!

:cheers2:

Prost!

Skal!

Slainte!

Iechyd da!

Cheers!

To your health!

I hate to hear that, but I can't argue with the reasoning. Still, you can't just have one beer every now and again?

I'm trying to cut back a little, myself. I drink just about every night, but usually no more than a beer. I think I am going to drink every other night during the week and then maybe a bit more on the weekend.

Ill probably have a few between now and the end of the program but Ill be heading for some of my favorites and not so willing to try new things. If I'm only going to have 3 or 4 beers over the next 3 months I'm damn sure not going to risk it on something I don't know I love.

Hey, perhaps absence will make the heart grow fonder and you'll appreciate those beers even more as a result.

At least that's my justification for cutting back. :cheers2:

So tonight, I poured just a couple small drops (maybe half an ounce) of bourbon into an empty glass, and then I poured Founders Breakfast Stout in over that. I've got to say, it's really not that bad.

Had someone served this to me, I'm not sure if I would've been able to tell that it wasn't a bourbon barrel-aged beer. The funny thing is there's a strong tobacco/cigar flavor to it, which I like, but which is also noticeably absent in the bourbon and the beer by themselves.

I had my doubts, but I may try this from time to time. I'm especially eager to give it a go with my favorite, Old Rasputin.

  • 3 weeks later...

We haven't talked beer in a while, but I know you guys have been enjoying some decent beers, right?

I just sent out my third beer trade. The guy I'm shipping to loves stouts, so I went out to try to wrangle up a few NC stouts that he can't get in Chicago. While doing so, I spent a little more than I wanted to on beer.

Here's what I picked up for myself:

4x Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (08-09 vintage)

4x North Coast Old Stock Ale (30% off at Total Wine, if anyone's interested)

2x Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin' Wild

Hoppin' Frog D.O.R.I.S. the Destroyer

St. Bernardus Christmas Ale (last year's)

I have so many great stouts right now in my wine fridge it's ridiculous, and I'm going to have even more when my half of this latest trade comes through. I've cut back my beer drinking just a bit, and I'm also saving some of these stouts for special occasions. I know I'll be breaking a few out as soon as it starts to get really cool.

Lately, I've bought far more beers than I've drunk. I did have a Thirsty Dog Siberian Night last night, which I always enjoy.

I was wondering if this year's had made it to H-T yet. What are they going for, $7.99 a four-pack?

I've got two bottles leftover from last year, and now I've got four from 08-09 as well. I've only had it fresh, so I'm interested to see how it tastes with some age on it.

    • I've been reading around on different websites about our team and OTAs and minicamps.  There are several members of this team that need to step up.  These are a few of mine.  Please feel free to add to the iist. 1. Bryce Young, Obviously the No. 1 person who needs to step up.  Bryce has been given everything a QB could ask for.  We have a top tier offensive line. Big WRs that can get open and make plays.  A decent running game.   Over tha past couple of years we have really put enough players in position to help him.  He has to be the guy to step up and utitlize his players. 2. Jaelan Phillips, Just because of the massive contract we gave him.  He has to be the leader of the pass rush.  He has to be in double digit sacks or the money isn't worth it.  He has to bring Scourton and the rest of the group to the top. 3. Ejiro Evero, Two years ago he had the statically worst defense in NFL history but was given a reprieve because we focused primarily on the offensive side of the ball for Young.  Last year we improved and we just didn't have enough to stop elite QBs.  This year he has been given just about everything a defensive coordinator could ask for.  IMO he has 4 cornerbacks that have impressed this offseason.  He received solid help for Brown with Hunter and Phillips. Our weakest area, LB Corp, we signed Lloyd to solidify that group.  With all the tools he has this season he needs to show why we kept him after 2024.  IMO he has no excuses this season.   Lastly, IMO is X. Legette. He has shown sporadic flashes but nothing to justify being a first round pick.  The WR room is stacked this season and any number of players from that group could make the 53 man roster. XL is going to have to show out this preseason.  At minimum, he performs well enough to possibly get a trade to a team needing a WR.  I think with T-Mac, Coker and Brazzell in the mix for the top three position we would be wise to utilize the remaining WR spots for players with a larger ceiling than XL.  Training Camp and Preseason will sort them out and IMO if XL doesn't flat out show out he's done in Carolina.  Feel free to add to this list.  And of course, your opinion.
