Is Steve smith our best player?

Smith is still our best player based on his accomplishments, but Beason will overtake him soon.

I guarantee you it is Steve Smith. There are no stats to back this, no sources to pull, just knowing about the Panthers and watching every game, you know that Steve Smith is the best player on the field for the Panthers.

Personally I think either Beason or D-Will have more impact on game day then Smith.

Smitty is still our best player, but I take issue with the people who claim that the Panthers can't win without him. They were actually 2-0 without him when Smitty was suspended in 08, and Delhomme probably had his best passing day of the entire season in the opener against the Chargers that year.

Even now I'm not so sure the Panthers couldn't win without Smitty, because they have a new WR's coach who has proven that he can get good production out of rookie WR's. Not that I'm in a hurry to find out though.

Last year, I don't think that was true. Now, with a change at quarterback, Smith could certainly start demanding more coverage, but I still think defenses will gameplan more heavily on whichever running back is in at the time.

You shut Smith down, and the Panthers have shown they can get by on the running game. Could the Panthers get by with no running game?

That's all been a function of absolutely piss-poor QB play the past two seasons. When Moore took over Smith's production sky-rocketed. With decent QB play this season, Smith will again show why he is our best player.

Smith should be our best player for at least one more season provided that arm heals well.

I cant believe some of you would do Smitty like that. He is undoubtedly our best player and that will be reinforced when some better QB play comes our way. There are backs like Williams and there are linebackers like Beason (comparable to them), but there is no one like 89.

It's sad that our passing game has deteriorated to the point that many of you would even think about calling someone else our best player. He's still in his prime btw imho.

nobody has single handedly won as many games for us as 89. remember that "top-notch" bears defense in the 05 playoffs? remember what smith did to them? remember the game against the packers where he made two (TWO!) miraculous grabs at the 1 yard line. remember how many times he shut up that loud mouth deangelo hall? remember what he continually does to the saints? what about that catch and run in the cardinals game near the sideline? what about his miracle act against the texans when the game was already lost?

but u know what, i want you guys to doubt smith. caz when u doubt smith, he makes it a point to remind you who he is.

Smith, with only one arm, is better than all the players on the team. Smith, with no arms, is better than 98% of the league.
