Get a grip son..the man has been money in the playoffs..I would love to see a young qb step in and takeover but Jake just had his worst game of his career..Life goes on

Oh, how much better today would be if the bolded phrase was "is"! The difference? "Has been" is past tense. Should we continue to hang our hats on that "Jake led us to the Super Bowl and two NFC Championship Games," especially when those things happened 3+ years ago?

As long as he's our starting quarterback, he's got my support. The team knows better than any of us do what needs to happen. I'm not going to alienate him. It's a crummy time to have the worst game of your career, though. But he's got a fan in me so long as he's under center here. Anywhere, for that matter. Call me a BDJS, or whatever. Until the organization decides he's not giving us the best chance to win, I'm not going to question them because I know he can still get it done.

Before the Huddle came into existence...back when when panthers.com had an official forum on the site...I posted a thread entitled "Delhomme Needs To Go Home", and got called all kinds of names. Waayyy back then I said that we would never sin a championship with Jake at QB because he makes waayyy too many poor decisions.

Looks like I was right.

You absolutely were...I got tired of fighting that fight on here. His apologists would not give in.

What year was that? That board has been gone for a long long long long time.

I remember the thread on April 1st that said it was shutting down. We all thought it was an April fool's joke.

Was that the year we went to the Superbowl?

Same here. But I can understand the anger many are feeling right now. It would be nice if somehow we bench & it light a fire on his ass more than ever like it happend to McNabb.

Jakes is ok. I appreciate the fact that he is a gunslinger. But the guy is way too damn risky. He throws into double coverage way too much. But this team needs more than a gunslinger, we need a precise passer who will take care of the football and get the ball downfield. I think Moore can be that guy eventually, I don't know if Jake still can. He can improve mentally but i dont know how much juice he's got in that arm. He always throws behind wideouts and he always throws high.

Seriously Jake can't win with a top 3 Rushing tandem, arguably the most feared wide receiver in the NFL what more does he need?

That is the most important thing in this entire thread.

In past years he was kinda forgiven for forcing it to Smith because his spporting cast was so poor and so mental mistakes and poor decisions were looked over as he was seen to be doing the best thing that might carve out a win.

Now though we have one of the best running back tandems in the league who are also capable of getting into the endzone. We have an OL that only allowed him to get sacked around 20 times this season. We have one of the best Wr in the league and definately one of the best playmakers in the league. We also have brought back Moose who Jack managed to connect with before. We also have Hackett and Jarrett who have pretty much caught everything thrown their way...but it hardly ever is thrown their way. We also have Rosario who proved he can be a playmaker in the abscence of Smith.

With all of those HE DOES NOT HAVE TO FORCE IT TO SMITH, yet he does. He has a fantastic supporting cast and all Delhomme needs to do now is manage the game and avoid mistakes, but he can't. With this team it has shown that Delhomme can't read defenses and can't find targets other than his primary target. He simply is not that good. He was great before when we needed someone who could force the ball to Smith every pass because of his strong mind and ability to shake off turnovers. Now though we need someone who can simply manage the game, something which Delhomme simply can't achieve as he ALWAYS looks for the deep ball. The amount of times we have gone three and out from deep passes boggles my mind. When was the last time he threw a short or intemediate pass? Or a screen? Or anything that does not involve a jumpball for Smith? He simply does not fit this team anymore as we do not need a gunslinger with this group of players, we need a QB who just can keep the chains moving.

This is why Carr failed so badly with us as he CAN manage games and looks for the shorter passes, but last year we needed a gutsy QB as we had nothing other than Smith. Carr could not handle that mentally and could not handle the amount of incompletions and interceptions.

He is a great personality and leader and would work wonders on a team that has no explosive players to make plays as this guy will chuck it in there regardless. I worry for him though as he was alleged to have been apologising to the team in the huddle. He may have been completely broken by this game. I am surprised he was still out there though as he was a broken man yesterday and Fox did not save him...

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
