Goodson, Sutton, & Jackson

I am trying to look at both the FB and RB situation beyond Double Trouble -- Fiammetta and this got me thinking...

Sutton played very well for us last year and even managed to step in as a FB when we needed help. Bottom line, he is a type of player we should have on the team. Goodson has had a decent camp but he hasn't shown too much on the field. I believe though he has a good deal of upside and is in a good position to make the team from the perspective of how much they have used him in camp. So, my question is are we gonna have 4 running backs? Because I find that a very unlikely scenario. Would it make sense to put Sutton as a FB on our final roster and move RaShawn Jackson (Who I think is a steal and is strong as crap) to the Practice Squad for his first year? Discuss

Haven't heard much about Fiammeta - I really hope he excels and makes one of these guys expendable. I think you can pretty much pencil in Sutton as a RB and I doubt they'll risk putting Goodson on the PS yet. Think Jackson and the dude from Richmond are put on the practice squad.

we had four tail backs last year. Williams, Steward, Goodson, and sutton.

we'll most likely have the same thing heading into this season

there is absolutely a reason to carry two fullbacks and four tailbacks.

I don't think you got what I was saying. On paper, it would be 3 RBs, 2 Fbs, and an FB on the PS. Yeah, four of them are Running Backs, but I'm coming from the perspective of simply filling our roster. So again, is Goodson, Jackson, or Sutton gone if you see one having to go?

I think goodson will be cut, he hasn't taken one snap yet due to injury and I don't think he is worth keeping on the squad if he can't even get on the field...Fiametta has been taking almost all of the first team snaps so he is in right now. I also like that kid vaughn...Sutton has also been getting a lot of reps with the second team but that is because of Stewart being out. It is going to be a difficult decision to say the least.

    • It's not even a particularly nuanced opinion, yet it seems out of reach for so many.
    • I don’t think he can be great. For me he tops out as starter maybe make the playoffs, stuff like that. I would have been okay with that kind of player as a placeholder but you don’t invest the time and assets we did and be happy with that.  On the cure,If a guy has mechanical flaws but otherwise is enticing, you let someone else make the mistake of taking him in the top of the 1st. If he doesn’t get taken you can pick him up 2nd or 3rd day and try to develop him (off the bench not starting).  The risk/reward with Bryce was horribly misjudged. I didn’t want to trade like that in the first place because I didn’t see the generation talent that justifies that type of move, but once it was done CJ was the better gamble. No doubt.
    • That's what I mean. If you claim to possess some super knowledge about the QB position from a previous non-football but football related job, wouldn't you want to expound upon that to support this "everyone doesn't know anything about being a QB" thesis? The rest is just summed up by stating that there are a lot of variables to a QB being successful. Yeah....I mean that isn't earth shattering.  While there is certainly a lot of luck involved in all manners of success, consistent success with the variables around you also changing on a regular basis is usually fairly conclusive.  Is Trent Dilfer the same as Tom Brady? Is Nick Foles the same as Patrick Mahomes? I supposed based on the OP's arguments, they are. That's not really the way it turned out, however.  The NFL isn't unlike most other jobs or even other sports. The cream typically does rise to the top on a more consistent basis. Is it accidental that premier poker players seem to win or perform very well on a consistent basis, give that any individual hand is largely luck?
