Hunter Cantplaywell

Why are you arguing with me? I'm agreeing with you. Cantwell hit his WR's right in the hands 2-3 times, but they failed to catch it. My only problem with him, was that he didn't move very well in the pocket. That's where Clausen kind of stands out so far.

Sorry. We agree then. Lets see how Cantwell does when he can actually run on a dry field. And I agree clausen is better running the ball a lot like David Carr. Seems he had practice at ND much like Carr had at Houston. Lets see if he can stand in there and actually wait for a receiver to clear downfield instead of running and dumping off the ball.

Cantwell clearly has the best arm. It's strong and accurate. Sadly that's all he's got going for him. He looked lost last night - he even pulled a play out of David Carr's playbook and turned his back to the blitz.

I want to see Pike before Cantwell next game.

Seriously? What did you see from Pike that justifies putting him ahead of Cantwell?

Cantwell's downfall, if it in fact works out that way, will not have been last nights game. It was his failure in practice to show that the clipboard year made him a better quarterback than the rookie. If he had done that, then he would have played in the second quarter when it was dry and could have done well. Since he didn't, he's going to lose most if not all the second team snaps this week and have a tough road with the third team to produce.

This all goes back to my call weeks ago that the backup job was Clausen's to lose and not Cantwell's. It was Cantwell that needed to prove something.

Yeah, we pretty much agree, but please don't compare Clausen to David Carr. Clausen is already much cooler under fire than that guy ever was.

Nothing. That's why I want to see Pike get some extended looks.

It's clearly between those two for the third roster spot. Both are projects.

Cantwell is the prototypical QB in terms of arm/size, but he lacks something up stairs. Pike is the other way round.

Pike is much more of a project than Cantwell, because he came from a spread offense. Just look at how many of those guys have put up video game type numbers in college, but couldn't do squat in the NFL.

As far as Cantwell lacking something up stairs...what are you talking about? He seems pretty bright to me.

I could care less about Cantwell. He sucks in my opinion and shouldn't be on this team. I remember before he even left Louisville I saw him in a game against LSU I think, and I thought he sucked in that game. Now that he's on the Panther's squad, he still sucks. Nothing new there... and I knew Clausen would beat him out, the coaches just wanted Clausen to ease into the speed of the game. He's got great awareness in the pocket.

Cantwell surprised me with his play... they way he stood in the pocket and delivered the ball with great power even though he knew he was going to get creamed. He did that several times. To his defense, the 3rd string Oline got manhandled by the Ravens.. and Cj Davis needs to be cut immediately. That guy got bull rushed every damn play, even got pushed into Cantwell once. I definitely think Cantwell deserves the 3rd string spot over Pike. Pike needs to goto the PS.

I'm sure he's bright, he's just not football smart. He looked lost last night.

Thats true if you consider that Clausen is a rookie with no starts and Carr looked that bad after starting for 4 years. Still that image of Carr flashed through my head last night at some point. Clausen has much larger upside. Still Clausen could benefit from sitting a year much like Carr could have as well.
