Pretty cruel joke...

So are you saying Smith keeps the number 1 receiver position?

Smith, Jarrett (yes, Jarrett), and Lafell might be a decent combo as the season moves on. One thing is for sure, Jarrett has some nice frickin hands. The rest of the guys seem like college scout team fodder.

I honestly think Jarrett will have a better season than Lafell. I'm convinced Lafell has bricks for hands.

Jarrett still looks bad to me. I know he had a catch (woo hoo) but he still seems to be thinking about his routes and lumbering through them too. The pass hit him in the numbers as he wasn't particulaly open. It was just a very good pass. I'll get off the Jarrett sucks bandwagon when he has several catches where he actually beats the coverage.

Towards the end of the game with Cantwell there was a play where Jarrett failed to get open in his route and then just stood there and watched while his QB was in trouble.

Heaven forbid he kept running trying to make something happen.

I'm about convinced the guy's a few crayons short of a full box, if you catch my drift.

Either that or he doesn't give a crap. I can forgive a guy that tries hard and progresses slowly because he's not all that bright than a guy who could really care less. I have to believe at this point he's actually trying and the game, at THIS level, is over his head.

That's what kills me about Jarrett. He just seems so unmotivated. I made it a point to watch him off the line more than once, and he just seemed dreadfully slow -- like he was just going through the motions since the play didn't involve him.

eh, with as many wide receivers as we've got competing for starting jobs... I'm not completely disgusted with the way they all played last night. None of them played every snap, so it's not like they're all gonna have five to six catches. And our offensive line wasn't giving our QB's any time to throw down field, just a bunch of check downs. If Kenny Moore and Matt Moore can work on their timing, they'll be great together. I still think we'll go into the season with 5 or 6 receivers on our roster:

Steve Smith

Kenny Moore

Dwayne Jarrett

Brandon Lafell

Wallace Wright

Armanti Edwards

Although, I'd like Charly Martin to come back from his finger injury and make our roster. At that point, I'd send Armanti Edwards to the practice squad. Unless he improves dramatically in these next few games.

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
