Always heard what a great long lasting car Toyota makes

I would say that replacing a tranny at that mileage on any car is a fluke. You're getting a new tranny and have thus just taken care of the most expensive repair you will ever encounter in owning this car going forward. Tranny's are the most complicated part of a car more expensive to replace than even an engine in most circumstances.

Consider it a blessing you aren't paying for it. Absolutely keep this car several more years and when you sell it use it as a selling point that the tranny was replaced at 65k.

These are exactly the kinds of cars I look to buy from people like you and sell them to customers who get good service out of them for the next 5 years. So many people cut and run on a car they've done so much work on figuring they're lemons and will continue, but in reality all cars need maintenance and once you've done a lot of work you often don't realize that you've 'gotten over the hump' and now you've just done all that work so that somebody else gets a good maintenance free car.

In most cases it's cheaper to keep your car and get whatever needs to be fixed done then you know what you've got, ie know the maintenance history, vs. getting another used car and not really know how well the person before you took care of it, or getting a new car with new payment all over again with depreciation.

im in a Camry rental right now. Dont like it. Seems cheap...rattles, etc. Its like a Chevrolet.

If i were shopping for something in that class, i think id pick a Hyundai Sonata over it. Looks better, has a better warranty i believe.

I agree, the new Sonata is one sharp looking vehicle and I would choose that over a Camry.

you probably just got a car that had been abused. Happens a lot for different reasons, I'm sure Mush could tell stories.

For instance, a dealership sold my dad a wrecked truck and lied about it, while they were doing some upgrades to smooth him over they gave him a loaner Camry. I borrowed it one day and made it my goal to ruin the tranny, and I'm pretty sure I was successful. Whoever got that car probably had to replace the tranny pretty soon.

I realize that was not the best idea, but hey, I was 16 and they had just screwed over my old man, so I was returning the favor.

If I had my choice, I'd be going with an older Land Rover.

Definitely not the new hot wheels versions.

I have a 99 Discovery. Has 194,000 on it now (bought it in 2005 for $7k when it had 115,000mi)

I've had to change the water pump and alternator once each, but that's it. And it is great off-road or in the snow or rain.

    • The Panthers are currently in line to receive the 6th pick of the draft. Current draft order: 1 New England 1-4 (SOS .434) 2 Cincinnati 1-4 (SOS .488) 3 Cleveland 1-4 (SOS .506) 4 LA Rams 1-4 (SOS .506) 5 Jacksonville 1-4 (SOS .506) 6 Carolina 1-4 (SOS .542) 7 Tennessee 1-3 (SOS.518) Due to the Panthers having the highest SOS in the league, we currently lose the tie-breaker for draft position against every other 1 win team in the league. Obviously, these are the teams we need to pull for. We also need to lower our current SOS by having teams we have played and will play against lose. Here is who you should cheer for, in week 6, in order of importance, for lowering the Panthers draft pick. There are 9 games this week that will Directly affect out draft status. The team that needs to win is in bold 1. Atlanta vs Carolina 2. Houston vs New England 3. Cleveland vs Philadelphia 4. Jacksonville vs Chicago 5. Indianapolis vs Tennessee 6. Arizona vs Green bay 7. Washington vs Baltimore 8. Pittsburgh vs Las Vegas 9. Detroit vs Dallas   *Literally had my BOLD picks backwards in the original post and couldn't edit.
    • It's year 2. Some of that bad talent he had brought in. Is it all on Evero? No but he is part of the problem IMO. I think he is way overhyped here. I was happy to see him go elsewhere before we blocked him. They were 4th in yards allowed in 2023 and 29th in points allowed. Any way you look at it the opposing offenses didn't need more yards to score with the play on the other side being 31 and 32. It was never a good D under him then and it has actually gotten worse with more of his guys brought in. The 2 good guys are also guys here before he got here so that's also not good.
    • TBH, trading down is usually where we start fuging up really badly. Don't overcomplicate it. Just get safe(ish), elite talent in the top 5.
