Jimmy Clausen's Throwing Motion

The interceptions happened because he just stared down his one WR making it easy for a pass to be picked. You have to wonder though after last week when he was looking off defenders did he just regress or did we gameplan poorly and tell him to not think too much, just pick a guy and go with it?

It was a quick out to the receiver. He made the mistake of not looking off his target at all - but you see that type of throw all the time in this league.

Clausen is a rookie and looked like one last night. The only people who seem to be concerned are those who said he should be starting or is as good as Moore at this point. Otherwise he is actually ahead of where most rookies are at this point in the preseason of his second game. He is fine where he is. After sitting a year and watching how it should be done as well as practicing, he will be significantly better next year. And realistically that is why we drafted him, to challenge for the starter role next year, not this year.

Scherer is supposed to be great with younger quarterbacks and a great technical coach. Let's see what he can do with some time with Clausen. I am confident he can be a starter in this league down the road.

Guys as far as staring down the receiver, that was a jet slant call and that is exactly what any quarterback does. It's a quick drop and throw to a dictated receiver. There is no progression for quick slants. The problem was that with the jets blitzing so well that safety or possibly linebacker could play up and anticipate it. His mistake if anything was not calling an audible. The pass should have never been thrown with the double coverage, that was really the mistake he made.

Did Moore look like a rookie last night? The Observer's cover story said that Clausen looked better. All of your logic makes sense except that it's based around a truly experienced QB as a starter. If Clausen was drafted last season backing up Jake there would be no debate.

There is no debate this year either except in the media and on this messageboard.

When are you guys going to give it up. Moore is the starter this year and that is the whole story. Clausen will back him up and play only in case of injury or if he totally bombs. Even then it doesn't mean Clausen would do any better.

Save yourself some angst and just accept it.

I think it's funny. We're all wanting a GOOD QB so badly, that we're finding imaginary flaws.

He stared down his WR (as many of have said). As far as him throwing too hard, that's possible. But I think once he learns his receivers a little more, he'll figure out how much zip he can put on the ball. As of now, its POSSIBLE by the end of his career, we're talking Clausen being the best QB's to ever play in Carolina, and possibly one of the best Panthers of all time. With that being said, he could also be average. But I will take average over 11 weeks of interceptions and banging my head on a wall.

I have to disagree a bit.. there are plenty of fans who create different results in their head than what actually happened.. been going on for years.. it's like fans don't watch the game and then write a report on what they think happened...

Have you read any of my posts? I've never once said that Clausen should be the starter. All I've said is that people like you should give up trying to convince us that Matt Moore is an established quarterback in this league because he isn't. He does not nor should have the job security of an experienced quarterback. A few meaningless wins gets him to start the season but after that he's got to earn it.

That's correct, but if we field an OLine week 1 vs. the Giants like the one we've fielded the last 2 weeks, I'd say both of those are distinct possibilities. Obviously I hope this is not the case, because Clausen's going to have to play behind the same line. If Moore goes down or plays like he did last night and Clausen has to step in as the starter we'll be damn lucky to see 5-11 or 6-10, not soley because Clausen would then be the starting QB but because it'll obviously mean other major aspects of the team are not clicking(OLine, special teams, etc, etc...)

In order to truly succeed in a pro-style offense, especially for a rookie, QB's MUST have MONSTER f*cking OLinemen and a solid running game to lean on, which is precisely why Clausen didn't win many game's at ND. Fundamentally he is a damn good QB who usually makes good decisions while under center, otherwise his passing statistics at ND would have sucked as much as the rest of the team.
