Panthers Stock Watch

Its been evident since day 1 that Darin gnatt never wanted Matt Moore to be our QB. He probably still think Delhomme give the Panthers the best chance to win

Soooo, you think his stock went up or is holding steady then. Wait...I see your user title. Question answered.

Matthew Erickson Moore

Do you get mad when the other team tackles the pretty boy too hard? Do you fuss? God forbid a "journalist" have an opinion about a Panther that isn't positive! Oh n0es! Bad, "journalist", bad! ::hits Gantt with rolled up newspaper::

During week 12 I think Delhomme does give us the best chance to win. It will be great to see him throwing INT's for TD's that benefit the Panthers this year.

Quarterback Matt Moore: We get it. He misses Smith, they aren’t game-planning, blah blah blah. At some point, he’s going to have to do something. Jimmy Clausen was no better.

I can agree with the first two sentences but the third sentence is pretty much bullshit. IMO clausen has looked pretty capable in his limited time and has displayed a ton of potential thus far. Has he made a couple of mistakes? Yes, but that's pretty much it he's made 2 crucial drive killing mistakes via interceptions but otherwise has done exceedingly well for a rookie QB in this league, no matter the circumstance. Will he start this year? Probably not, this is Matt Moores team. But....

Just imagine Clausen(I'm talkin' 2011-2012 in this scenario) behind a capable OLine still able to lean on our solid running game to keep the defense honest throwing to Smitty.

God forbid I have an opinion you don't like...and while I'm on it, he admitted the pass protection was horrid and had nothing positive for the receivers, so how is Matt Moore supposed to look good? His stock isn't down, its where it was before the preseason began. And no matter what any thinks, he'll be the starter week 1.

Gantt and some of the other guys were always real quick to knock Moore ever so slightly last year before Carolina really turned it on...

Gantt also was already playing the should of kept Jake card on Twitter. You would be foolish to think the preseason game 1-2 Delhomme/Moore is what you will see when actual football is played. No gameplanning is going on and Carolina's one man recieving corp hasn't even played.

Of course he'll be the starter. But it's obvious you can't be objective at all concerning Matt. Why even have this lame stocks article to begin with? It's pre-season, everyone is getting used to gearing up again, no one plans for blitzes, and crappy players are out there, right? Why does Matt (in your eyes) get a pass on a stock list while others should be put on it? Both our QBs have looked like crap. There are reasons for it, sure. So technically their stock has dropped. Can't get any more simple than that.

Gantt has a point. Moore has yet to look like a starting NFL QB through 2 preseason games. He just looks like another guy out there.

As for Gantt disliking Moore.. last season, absolutely. He's actually been way more critical of Clausen this off-season and been pretty supportive of our starting QB. He makes fun of anyone suggesting Clausen might challenge Moore and has been pretty positive regarding Moore's camp. He's just (rightfully) been unimpressed with Moore's showing as a starting QB against other teams.

Also, it's hardly like he's slurping Clausen. He flat out says in the same paragraph that Clausen has been no better.

    • I understand the concerns--he is not P. Sewell or Joe Thomas.  He has technique issues and was not great in the run game and was good in pass protection when UGA did not pass much.  Then there is the immediate need vs long term need perspective.   I did not see Freeland being there-frankly. Here is why:   He has nearly 35" arms and his hands are large (10.5").  He ran a 4.93 40 at the combine.  He is very agile.  His vertical was 33.5".   Physically, he is a freak. He is 21 and he seems very intelligent (coachable). You have to remember, some of these rookies are 24, 25 years old. Freeling is A team player.  His shortcomings are fixable.  Short arms (as with the kids from Utah and Miami) are not fixable.  The Run on OTs began at #9: Fano (picked 10 picks earlier) has 32" arms and his hands are 9".  He did not play in the SEC like Freeling.  Many think the short arms project him to guard. Mauigoa (picked 10th) has 33" arms.  He is a solid player, but his arms make him borderline as a T (they seek 34" and up as ideal)  Kayden Proctor (picked 12th overall) struggled in pass protection and projects by many to RT or G.  Weight management is a concern. So it is possible that Freeling will be the first LT taken who actually plays LT.  (he also has the ability and experience to play RT)  His questions are fixable and not limited to physical limitations.  Here is the question:  If you know that you need a Tackle, and you could choose between all four of these players, who would you pick? I am not sure that Freeling would not be the player I selected if given the opportunity to take any of them.
    • The more I think about this pick the more I like it. The Icky injury might end up being a blessing in disguise for everyone except Icky unfortunately. If Freeling pans out at LT the Panthers have a good player on a rookie contract at a premium position at a time when they’re going to need to potentially pay Bryce for his next contract. Icky was likely going to command a big salary jump for his next contract and now, there’s a strong justification he’s not going to be worth a big money extension until he rehabs and proves he can still play at a high level. Since he’s finishing his rookie deal this season, it will be interesting to see if the Panthers bring him back for the 2027 season. Obviously it’s too early to say and they will probably wait to see how the season pans out with Moton still elite but aging and clearly battling persistent injuries, and they need to see if Freeling can develop into a starter during his rookie year. But ultimately this might have opened up a huge chunk of salary cap for the next 4-5 years.
    • You read my mind Nastradamus! If Rodriguez is still there I feel like it will be hard to pass on him. And one of these TE we keep drafting have to hit eventually and Delp is just as good as the others.
