Why did they call a false start on us at the end of the third quarter vs Jets?

I was watching the game on TIVO for the second time, and i got to an amazing catch that i forgot, then remembered, but didn't remember why I forgot about it ( sounds confusing huh?). It was a catch by Kenny Moore where he started to catch the ball on a comeback it went up like 2 feet and he caught it as he fell. Well after the play was over they said we we had a false start penalty for the 15 seconds after the play was over so the 15 yard gain got erased..... I replayed the presnap 11 times... 1 time for each player... there wasnt a single false start from any of the players..... so what the fug?

it was probably illegal procedure/formation, a false start would have been an immediate dead ball with whistles blowing everywhere..there was probably someone lined up too far back(oline try to sneak it in to get an advantage) or a reciever in the neutral zone..

Although the ref originally called it a false start, it was actually an illegal formation that had to be explained to John Fox by the ref after the TV commercial break a couple plays later. The only reason we knew was because it was announced in the stadium as a formation call.

Doesn't (I don't think) apply to this case, but I did notice from the Colts game that the QB has to wait until the Umpire gets into the backfield before you can snap (doing a quick snap) or you'll get a false start too. Not that we have that kind of offense, but I can see Manning (and those like him) really suffering from that.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
