Pioli to Chiefs a done deal

Per PFT.

If, as has been speculated, Pioli decides to let go of Herman Edwards, then Fox's old buddy would be free to join his staff as a DC (and would do so with the full trust of Fox to run things his way).

This could be interesting.

(of course, it could also be nothing)

Edwards is one of those guys who works much better as a coordinator than a head coach. His record as a head coach is bad enough that he might not get another offer for that spot, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him get attention from anyone needing a DC.

Friendship with Fox could give Fox an inside track, but it could also be a hindrance (the old "would you want your friend as your boss" conundrum).

I do firmly believe that if he came here, Fox would give him full autonomy to run the defense as he saw fit.

My first thought when I saw this about Pioli going to KC. Herm's out! Maybe to Carolina? But isn't Lovie friends with Herm also?

Don't know, but I'm pretty sure the Bears are happy with their DC (forget who it is). They could offer him something else, of course.

It is possible that the Lions or Raiders look at him as a head coach, despite his record.

While Herm was pretty good as a player for Philly I haven't exactly been wowed by KC's defensive prowess. What makes you think he would be better than Trgo?? ( I know almost anyone is, but it begs the question)

He was way better as a DC than as a head coach.

    • he used to have nothing good to say about them. put him on the payroll...problem solved.
    • I am also intrigued by Mohammad. Could be another story. Seems like he has the talent but seems to have had some issues with coaching schemes/changes,  some attitude and work ethic issues? Hopefully his being home can get him focused. Here is what I read ( all second hand to me ) :    1- He has all the skills but was nonexistent under two different coaching staffs. He butted heads and was benched under Jimbo (for wearing sleeves under his uniform after the coaching staff told him not to 🙄). Then under the new staff, he rarely saw the field – he had just 55 yards last season. When he saw the field, he either made the most impressive play of the game or would get an unsportsmanlike penalty. Just a bizarre case because he has the talent.     2 -Aggie here to provide some insight. As the other poster mentioned, Moose had a weird time at A&M and it didn't help that Jimbo's offense was painful and wide receivers never seemed to excel. His third year was promising but he was also competing with Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, and Chase Lane who I'm pretty sure were all 5*s. Also Ainais Smith and Devon achane ran majority of the offense. That said, going into his last year with Jimbo, a couple guys like Lane and Achane left, and most Ags thought this would be the year Moose really steps up. Unfortunately as the other poster mentions, he disappeared into misconduct and coaching change.
    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
