Game Developer's Last Act A Heroic One

This Friday, the video game community lost one of its own in a tragic accident. Brian Wood, a designer at Relic who worked on Company of Heroes, lost his life after a head-on collision with an SUV in Washington state. Wood is survived by his wife, Erin and his yet unborn child.

According to police reports, Wood's final act was heroic. As an out-of-control Chevy Blazer hurtled toward the Wood family, Brian braked hard and swerved his car so that he would take the brunt of the impact, saving his wife and child. While the crash was fatal to Brian, his wife escaped with only minor injuries and his child was unharmed.

“All the policeman say that if we had hit the car head-on all of us would be dead. At the very last second (Brian) braked really hard and turned right so that he would be put in the path of the SUV and not me and the baby, and that is the only thing that saved us both," Erin said.

As for the other car, police report that the driver was apparently changing her sweater and asked her passenger to take the wheel, a tragic mistake. The car jumped the center line into incoming traffic, and left Woods, and two passengers from the other car (25-year-old Jacob Quistorf and 26-year-old Francis Malloy) dead.

The driver, Jordyn Weichert, 21, is in custody awaiting charges of three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault. Police suspect drugs were among the causes of the crash. “There is quite a drug history there . . . and we found some evidence of that at the scene so that leads us to believe there were drugs in their systems,” said Sgt. Jason Longoria.

“More than anything he was a wonderful man," Erin said of her late husband. "He was so excited to be a father and he did the only thing he could to save his baby and it is so telling about who he is as a person that he was willing to sacrifice himself to save us. That is the true measure of a husband and a father. He loved life and was just so thankful for everything.”

Why is it that the idiots and drunk drivers responsible for these kinds of accidents always survive? Honestly, I've never heard the story go "The husband and his wife and child in the vehicle that was struck were unharmed, but the driver of the other car who was drunk, high on crack, talking on a cell phone and eating a hamburger tragically did not survive."

If i believed in God, the only way I could accept B.S. like this as part of his devine plan is if I believed that this man was taken to motivate society to examine itself and make changes to ensure shiz like this didn't happen again. But that shiz ain't the truth. He was killed for no reason at all, and the idiots and unjust will continue thrive with no consequences.

    • Depends, if we would have hired Wilkes and kept darnold were probably be right about where we are now. An average team fighting for a winning record and nfcs crown
    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
