If you don't mind kiche, Little Switzerland (South of Cashiers, NC almost to the GA border.) Moutians, great food lots of little stores to spend your money in! (You and the GF/Wife spring for one of the rooms with a hot tub!) http://www.climbeverymountain.com/Little_Switzerland_North_Carolina.htm

Llama Trekking in Western NC is good.

I have been to both places with various GF's. (Back when I could walk obviously.)

It's a cool town, but it's not worth driving there when you have Asheville within 3 hours. Chattanooga is a hellacious drive from Charlotte.

what he said.

But, you could make a weekend out of it. There is the big aquarium. Imax, Chickamauga Battlefield is right there and its supposed to be excellent. You can also raft the Ocoee which isnt far, but the last release is Oct 31.

The have a big music festival in June.

You could go to Topsail Beach, it's a very nice quiet beach. Good for families, lots of surf shops and a several nice hotels right on the beach. You're also about 30-45 mins from downtown Wilmington with lots of shops. Theres a reptile farm right in downtown Wilmington with a lot of exotic snakes, and there's always the Battleship. There's an aquarium nearby and you're only about an hour and a half or so from Myrtle Beach if you want to go to Ripleys Aquarium.....
