Here's the WalterFootball.com 2011 Mock Draft so far:

panthersb_logo.gifCarolina Panthers: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia Georgia_logo.gif

If the Panthers have the opportunity to draft A.J. Green, they have to pull the trigger. They need to provide some help for Jimmy Clausen, who has no one to throw to besides Steve Smith.

I know Carolina obtained Brandon LaFell in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, but prospects like Green don't come around very often. And besides, LaFell has struggled to catch the football thus far in his brief NFL career.

Pick change; previously Marcell Dareus, DE/DT

Personally, I don't see us taking a WR this high. I think we go DE - Robert Quinn.

If we do have a top 3 pick, it will be used on either AJ Green or Patrick Peterson. I'd be happy with either, but would rather have AJ. Im glad the rams have a better record than us to a certain extent because then need a true #1 WR, and right now we have the better shot at landing Green.

EDIT: walterfootball upsates the mock draft every wednesday i think

I cant get over how big of a value trading down is, especially considering the great trade we made last year with our early second round pick of this upcoming draft. Theres always great value is later picks and we have multiple needs. Trading down also helps save the team some huge cap hit that comes with a top 3 pick.

AJ Green has the type of skills to be an impact player as a rookie. If he is there then you take him. Our defense is getting pressure on the QB with Brown, Hardy, Johnson and Brayton. You don't take Robert Quinn #2 in our situation. He isn't a Mario Williams or a Julius Peppers...he is more like a Gaines Adams.

I like Peterson a lot too but you can find starting DBs in the 2nd round. You don't find guys like AJ Green in the 2nd round.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
