Fox "miracle" quote

"Though Jarrett appeared to be just short of the first-down marker on his fourth-down route, Fox assured reporters the Carolina sideline knew the down-and-distance.

"I think when the ball was snapped, there was eight seconds left," Fox said. "What we needed was a miracle.""

Way to throw your players under the bus, Fox. Your staff didn't have the contingencies covered. Your players need to hear you say "We've planned for these situations, we've practiced these situations, and we have absolute confidence in our ability to execute." Instead, because your staff had no idea what plays to run, how to prepare a young quarterback to run multiple plays without having to be wet-nursed after every sorry call, and how to manage a clock, they have to read a statement from their coach that "it takes a miracle" to convert a sixteen-yard play out of bounds. I understand the odds don't favor it, but a MIRACLE? Come on, brother. A "miracle" is a 70-yard hail mary or hook-and-ladder. A 16-yard completion to stop a clock happens every week. Way to inspire your young team. I'm sure they'll lay it all on the line for you on Sunday.

meh.. that drive came down to dwill running backwards.. he takes the 2 yards instead of going for the big play and we are in manageable position for a FG.. sadly, 8 times out of 10, that cut to the outside works for dwill and if he HAD gotten past the defender, he'd probably score.

secondly, the 16 yard completion wouldn't have stopped the clock. this isn't college, 1st downs don't stop the clock. someone needs to get out of bounds to do that.

That pretty much nailed it.

PS...why are people still so worried about what Fox says in his PC? After all these years, you would think that Panthers fans have figured out how to interpret Foxspeak by now. Rule #1...don't take everything he says literally.

    • People were discussing the new backup QB in comparison the the starter.  Neither has anything close to a cannon.  Video was posted of them throwing.  If people can’t be free to express their opinions without being put on a list of posters who have ruined this place we have a bad situation here. People trying to silence  criticism of the QB.    Maybe actually post about the other players instead of about the other posters. That is where it went off the rails.
    • That's true and we're definitely going to hear more about it as summer progresses. But at the end of the day all of the progress we've made on the roster as a whole will only matter if our passing offense can emerge from the basement of the NFL. In 2023 it was 32 out of 32 in 2024 it was 30th out of 32 and last year it was 26th out of 32. And early in the season we relied heavily on a career year from Rico Dowdle who is no longer on the roster. This is only reinforced by the fact that we (depending on how one views it) effectively took playcalling out of Dave Canales hands and brought in another offensive mind. The elephant in the room isn't going anywhere no matter how much we may not like it.
    • There's plenty of other things to discuss. This is the most talented roster we've had in a long time.
