When does a new coach stick with the old QB

Most everyone knows this... let us all have a "what if" moment and stop being a party pooper, will ya?

As much of an optimist as I am...that sh!t is just ridiculous. We have more of a chance of signing Favre 15 years from now than Peyton Manning ever playing with a Carolinas-esque looking Panther on his helmet.

There are way too many variables in this equation to use previous franchises as a barometer. This argument is akin to the using a top 5 pick on a QB is a higher risk than other positions because of previous busts. (An argument i hope we avoid.) In some previous cases not only were the HC's replaced but also higher ups that make big time decisions. I will concede that it seems to be the norm that new coaches want to hand pick their QB but has it become a forgone conclusion that Fox is out or that we will not hire from within. Jim Skipper is my pick. In 2006 he was discussed as a HC prospect for the Jets. He is our ASSISTANT HEAD COACH. We would not have to throw huge amounts of money at him. It would be a symbolic passing of the torch from FOX. I also have a handpicked offensive coordinator in mind.

Kevin Wilson coordinator of Oklahoma Sooners. Born in Maiden, NC. Went to UNC.

Check out his bio page. Guy is a custom fit. I also think the only player in the upcoming draft he would HAVE to have is likely DeMarco Murray and i am OK with that. Lastly neither promoting Skipper or bringing Wilson up from the college ranks to coordinate in the NFL is gonna break the bank.

If this happens we are in for several long bad years.

Ok, so figure Clausen and Pike stay. The new guy signs a vet QB, draft day rolls around, and Andrew Luck is available. Hmm....

the more i think about it, i some offensive minded coach had their own QB that they wanted to come in and play and the two of them already had a pretty good relationship then i wouldn't be totally opposed to it happening. say if harbaugh came and wanted luck as his QB still...trade clausen away for a pick. i don't think we'd get much for him at this point but if they could take on the contract i'd be fine with just about anything.

making sure we have the right QB for the next HC would be worth it, imo.

very well could be quite a few acquisitions that have been made in the past few years that won't fit in well with the new coach or there might be new people that become available through trade or FA that might make picks we made irrelevant.

when a new coach (and hopefully new GM) come in, it's going to be a chance to start over and they ought to take advantage of it. if it puts the team on the right track and gets us in a better shape to get a ring or two, i'm all for it.

    • Me, signing up for FanDuel Network, and then canceling FanDuel Network:
    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
    • Didnt Canales already say starters are playing in the pre season? either way extra reps dont hurt but im not one of those people that think playing in the pre season would have saved Bryce from an awful start.
