If Cowher is the coach the pick will be Luck.

If Gruden is the coach then its a toss up between Luck and Locker (he likes the west coast and Locker is a perfect fit for that offense).

If someone else random is the coach then its Luck.

That is IF they don't like Jimmy Clausen but I don't see how you pass on either Luck or Locker when the only QBs we have are unproven and on a low salary.

I find the infatuation with Luck highly amusing. I see absolutely no way we are going to pick Luck in the top ten next year. We might take him with the top 5 pick in 2012 if Luck decides to stay in school one more year. He is playing well on a good team currently and has been able to overcome some issues with his footwork and release. He is also pretty young and has not performed at that level for long enough to be rated so highly for the draft next year.

Jake Locker is an interesting prospect for the NFL because of he is a threat to pick up some yards on the ground. He should go in the top 20 but might get taken earlier by a team desperate for a franchise QB.

Whatever pick we end up with we will go BPA and it won't be a QB. We will probably draft a defensive end or cornerback seeing as we are likely to pick tenth or thereabouts. We will add a veteran QB through Free Agency.

we will trade down and select an olineman. just watch

I don't think there is a lot of value in picking an O-lineman in the first round although I would not be surprised if we trade down in the unlikely event that we end up with a top 5 pick. Maybe they want to go after Derek Sherrod who I have heard has the potential to be a good LT.

I saw a mock draft with John Moffitt of Wisconsin going to us on another thread and I think he would be a good pick in mid-rounds. Now, I'm a Badger fan so I may be a little biased, but I think he has potential to be a pretty good guard. I would rather we go after him than someone like Gabe Carimi in the first round.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
