EFFORT STARTS TO PLACATE PEPPERS?

Posted by Mike Florio on January 19, 2009, 9:59 p.m.

Three days after defensive end Julius Peppers launched a public power play to get out of Carolina, the Panthers might be starting the process of making Julius happy.

Gone is defensive line coach Sal Sunseri.

Coincidentally, Sunseri arrived in 2002, the same year that the Panthers picked Peppers with the second overall selection in the draft.

There’s also chatter that defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac could leave. Word is that his contract has expired, and that he might head to Jacksonville, where he would join Jack Del Rio’s staff.

It remains to be seen whether such changes will persuade Peppers to stick around.

The odd thing about that entry is that it says that Sunseri is leaving, rather than being fired by the Panthers. And the link is to Collegefootballtalk, which in turn links to this story. It says that Nick Saban is hiring Sal Sunseri to be his linebackers coach at Alabama....but never implies that the Panthers fired him.

Lets say Turdocrap floats downstream to J'Ville....

Curious, who is on your wish list for the Panthers to hire as D Coordinator? I ask this because I am at a loss. We need to add personnel and build around Beason. Chuck the 4-3 and start anew? 3-4? Give me some names to research.

Thats because a lot of their contracts are up

This organization kind of did it in a classy way. We not going to publicly fire you, but go ahead and look for other jobs

    • My thing with that is you can’t look at it is a vacuum. Things are symbiotic, if I am using that word right. I know that the playbook is a certain way because of Young’s skill set. Just opening things up to different options would change the whole thing for everybody involved. A whole new equation.    Otherwise to the original idea, Wallace was a bad pick. I thought so last year when he got on the field and really never improved. And can’t think of them right now but I know there are examples of a coach or GM being great at a position but cannot fill it on his team. But Dan, that Wallace evaluation; wtf happened?  But I think the 2025 rookies are looking pretty good if you are grading on a Panther curve. T Mac will make his QB better (I think we see that now). I really hope Zavala isn’t reverting to 2023 form. Because we will be screwed.  Kicker couldn’t make it from what, 57? To me, if your defense is strong and is balling and you punt the ball, I won’t complain. This, today, wasn’t that. Canales is still a young coach and still green.
    • Is Bryce is going to have success at any level as a quarterback in the NFL he has to eliminate his turnovers. This was a very winnable game today without his turnovers.
    • Not the same scheme as 1997 dude
