Cam Newton

if and when Cam Newton is ruled ineligible he'll def be gone. Hell, after all this speculation all ready, lockout or not hes probably gone. So either way, he's not a qb in the NFL. We haven't seen enough of his arm in college and thats probably for a good reason.

Is he entering the draft this year? I haven't heard much talk about him in this year's draft, so I was just curious. If so, when does he go?

(KT...I waited for you to start a thread, but wanted to know)

Why would he leave early to go to the NFL? He's already getting paid to play the game. :yesnod:

I love Cam, for better or worse. I'm just not sure if he's NFL ready yet.

That said, he has all the tools, he just has to harness them. Watch the replay of the first half TD pass to Lutzenkirchen against UGA. That thing was on a rope. His biggest weakness is a tendency to throw off of his back foot. If someone fixes his footwork, he could be unstoppable.

If Carolina is going to draft anybody out of Auburn, I'd rather have Nick Fairley. He is a PERFECT fit as a 4-3 DT...that is, assuming that the new coach sticks with the 4-3...

Think Newton really raised his stock today, however, hard to say after one season, and they have had such a good running game that it's a ton of one on one coverages that he's thrown too. Don't think he's on Luck's level and I would still rather have Luck, but Cam is a special talent if he gets developed right.

Man, this might turn into a dogfight between Luck and Newton for #1 after all if Newton can finish up the season with another dominant performance against Oregon.

Here's the thing though: Andrew Luck is supposed to be a can't-miss. The odds of him not turning into a franchise quarterback are extremely low.

Newton also has all of the tools to be as good as I see Luck becoming. I think the odds of Newton turning into a franchise quarterback also are about 75%. Great odds, but not the 95%+ that Luck has. So if you go off that, I still say Luck should be the guy. But if anybody thinks that the odds are that Newton will NOT become a stellar NFL quarterback, you are very much mistaken.

    • Okay then. To me that means Russell Wilson was Coryell. Because I see the proposition completely in the Russell Wilson punt/pass put it up for grabs mold. Count on the receiver to catch it or knock it down.    And the reason I thought that was the intent with Legette is the abysmal downfield game from 2023. As in, there was barely any.   I look at it as if… the result of a deep attempt isn’t as important as the opponent understanding they have to defend it. So I was all for some 50/50s. Coryell, Walsh whoever.  I do favor the Coryell approach personally but also very much value versatility, it doesn’t have to be strict. Just make the defense defend the whole field, however you do it. It has to include downfield throws.
    • Sold, or in the process of being sold. Could be either way. Consider this for a second... Last season, our defensive coordinator steered what many have called the worst defense in NFL history.  Canales would absolutely have been justified in firing him, and no one would have blamed him if he had.  But what did he do? He gave Evero another chance to come back and prove he could be better. Does that tell us something about Canales? I think it does. Now apply that to Bryce 😕
    • Canales has never been part of big YAC offenses in the NFL.  That’s not his tree.  Not in Seattle, Tampa or here.  Every O he has been associated with basically has been bottom half of the league in YAC.  That’s what Bryce needs to happen though  2 very different things….and very much gets into why the middle school QB doesn’t fit
