THE TIME TO WIN IT ALL WAS NOW! Window of opportunity is closing....

the idea that the window is closing is incredibly short sighted and narrow minded and are the products of a mind who is in full blown panic mode with no ability to see what good things are ahead.

yes, we have some key players who are aging, but they aren't the whole team and can/will be replaced. we have an incredibly young team over all and loads of talent on both sides. there are some areas that need to be strengthened but they are few.

even though we had problems on defense WE STILL GOT TO 12-4!!!!!!!!!!! who was it that got us there? we have an outstanding young couple of RBs who could be among the best tandem of all times. We have smitty who will still be productive for another few years as well as some good talent in the other WR spots, dwayne jarrett is going to be huge (question why he hasn't been used much? he's still learning and growing and is behind two very good receivers with a lot of experience). smitty and a good few others have commented on rhyne robinson and the talent that he has as a receiver that reminds them of smitty himself. we have a great Oline that will be anchored by kalil and otah for years to come and will help to bring along others who we bring in.

On defense...the line struggled but we have an offseason to build it back up and two possible successful DEs in Charles Johnson and even Hilee Taylor. We will get stronger there. Our LB corps is still young and is among the very best in the NFL. Beason is going to be our Ray Lewis and an awesome player/leader. We have strong options at CB in gamble and marshall (both of whom are still fairly young) and we will see improvement there this offseason as well.

Our safties are young but are going to be outstanding talents as well. Chris Harris is amazing and one of the toughest SS there are. Wasn't he the one who stopped BRANDON FREAKING JACOBS dead in his tracks! Who else has been able to do that without help? Charles Godfrey is going to be our Ed Reed. You watch him. He is still young and learning but he took on a brand new position for him at the highest level as a rookie. You better believe that he is far from the finished product.

Now if your argument is Jake is old and entering his declining years....whatever. Anyway, isn't he considered to be the weak link by many on the offense? We got to 12-4 in spite(?) of his weaknesses as a QB, right? If our running game is what carried our offense this year, what makes you think they won't be able to do it for years to come?

It may be the window is closing for this team exactly the way it is but if you think that our team is not going to get better than how it was this year and that there is no where to go but down you are crazy.

This year was only the tip of the iceburg.

The window may be closing on some peoples era with the Panthers, but I think we can be good for awhile.

That whole piece on Jake was a total joke though, if you know your weakness you need to fix it, not try to win in spite of your shitty QB.

Matter of fact, who would disagree that if we had a upper echelon QB at the helm that we would not be playing in the Super Bowl?

problems on the Dline and coaching of the defense was a much bigger issue throughout the season even though it was on par with the QB play in the last game.

There aren't available options to provide us with a better QB right now anyway.

I respect your thoughts about 'window closing for Panthers' but your reasons behind this are way off. Too many counter points to this discussion to take the thought seriosuly.

You think our doom revolves around three offensive plaayers is way off the mark.

-S. Smith: Easy 3-5 seasons of being our #1.

-Delhomme: Okay...but in the back of all our minds we know we can find equal to better talent at the starting QB position.

-Moose: eh? I mean there is big time chemistry between these three but lets be honest.

I'd take J. Peppers leaving as MORE of a sign for 'window closing' than all of the above.

I can say at least 15 teams are worst off than us right now. I mean huge gaping holes. Poor off-season management. Drama.

That we know of.(bold)

If your going to go on and try to say if our defense was of Baltimore or Pittsburgh caliber having a QB like Jake would be acceptable, then absolutely.

We don't however, so then it's about what angle they are going to go.

Average QB, Top 5 defense or Good QB Good Defense?

You can't let one area slack off so bad, while still not really making up for it with nothing on the opposite side of that.

my thought is make the defense as good as baltimore or pittsburgh. with the strength that we have on offense already we would be better than those two teams, even with jake.

once we get the defense fixed we can focus on the QB. why not try to fix both at the same time? no need at the moment. jake is serviceable. while i want more than that, it would be better to bring in a new QB to a great situation on both sides of the ball than to bring one into a mess on either side.

a bad defense makes us rely on the offense a lot more. not good for a mediocre QB or a new one. we have fixed the offense as a whole. We aren't far from fixing the defense. Lets get it solid though and make the best use of our QB while we got him here.

    • Outside of cerrato, I do like our draft overall. Hard to get can't miss draft picks when you pick late in the draft
    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
