Critter help

I rent a crappy little house in Rowan Co with a brick foundation, crawl space and access. Where the HVAC duct work runs in there's more access for small creatures.

Once, I heard something in a floor vent only to see an Opossum's nose, it was inside the duct work and nearly in the house.

Now, I hear a scratching noise at night like something is trying to get inside the plastic that holds the insulation to the floor and we're hearing something in the duct work again.

Common sense says whatever it is, is seeking warmth so turning the AC on at night seems to deter it's attempts, but tomorrow's low is 25 and that's just not feasible.

I have called the property manager but haven't heard anything back yet and I have a baby in the house.

Does anyone know of anything I can use temporarily to deter what I imagine is a possum, cat or raccoon?

Billy the Exterminator is too far away for me to call.

Just keep all vents closed and you should be fine. Worst case scenario, get the baby out, grab what is important, and set the house on fire. Other than shooting them in the head or chopping the head clean off, it is the only way to kill 'em.

Or is that zombie apocalypse? Can't remember.

I catch them all the time on our porch...

Go buy a HaveAHeart live trap (you might can even rent one from an SPCA or some other animal org (tell them it is for a feral cat)), bait it with some canned soft cat food, and place that near the entry point of wherever it is coming from...

You should have the possum in it in the morning, and you can do with it what you please...

Me personally, I usually release them back into the front yard, hoping that they get the point/scare from being entrapped for the night...

You could also find somewhere else to release it, or call local animal control to do it for you... If you do it yourself, though, you could possibly be charged with abandonment (not sure, since it is a wild animal), plus you are making your problem someone elses...

    • I dont think people realize how hard it is to find a consistent starting QB in the NFL. Byrce will not heart us to a SB but I do think he can manage to get us one or close..go all in on defense and change the Offensive passing game and play calls. I really think our biggest problem is our HC.  Take New Orleans QB for example, switch him and Bryce and I promise you it'll look similar or worse. New Orleans OC is levels ahead of Canales. And as far as the draft goes, in this division with as much rb talent as we face ..the answer...this guy:    Pick up a couple edge rushers in FA along with a corner and plug this guy in Rozeboom's spot. Defense solved. But only if we get a top tier rusher on that dline....jus saying
    • I think I'm going to the game in Los Angeles vs Paraguay, and the England / Croatia game here in Dallas since my mom is British.  For decent seats anywhere in the building(s) it looks like it will be upwards of $7k for the two games.  Insane. Just for perspective, you could buy field level EPL tickets for any one of the top sides in the league, and it would be 10% of the price you'll pay for crappy seats at the World Cup.
    • Meh… I knew this thread would turn into a Bryce/Tua comparison, when they couldn’t be further apart situations.   Dolphins catered there whole offense toward Tua, they brought in a coach that would run a Tua friendly offense, the went in got the best most explosive WR in the NFL and paired him the fastest WR in that years draft. Panthers have done the opposite, they went and got a Pete Carroll disciple who likes to run the ball under center, they drafted big slow WR who got little separation in college. Literally the polar opposite of Bryce’s scouting report coming out of Alabama.   Tua was a decent QB 2 years ago, but the concussions, lack of movement have caught up to him. He never had a great arm to begin with but now since he doesn’t want to get hit he’s taking the whole offense down with him.
