If you didn't realize today that our biggest need is for a stud DT...

...then you are a casual fan...

This is followed very closely by OL that can block and not get beat every single snap, and then a solid #2 WR that can get open and catch passes that hit him in the hands and face while in the endzone...

Seattle beat the hell out of us, right up the gut, in the second half... Almost every single time they took it up the gut, between the tackles, they ripped off at least 5 or 6 yards... You can thank perennial Pro Bowl selections Nick Hayden and Derek Landri for that... I don't fault Hardy as much on the end because he is a rookie playing beside high schoolers... Charles Johnson can't do it by himself...

All this talk about Luck is dumb when we have way bigger issues... I'd like to see any rookie, or seasoned vet for that matter, come in and complete passes when he has approximately 3 seconds to make a read before someone has penetrated the backfield... Until we fix OL and DT, our QB and defense in general will continue to be worn down/beat up, game after game...

You do realize 3 seconds is about the average time most QBs take to throw the ball right? He has run into at least 4 or 5 of those sacks by bailing the pocket or failing to step up. Now the O-line has regressed this year but Clausen just lacks presence right now and is a mess under pressure.

DT, OL, DE, and QB are ALL huge needs. It just so happens that the best of those 4 in the upcoming draft, as rated by "experts", is a QB. I'll take my chances with FA O-linemen and a big name DT FA signee (assuming there are any), as we draft another QB. But THIS time we also sign a FA qb to mentor the kid and Clausen. And he will start until one is ready to take over. Drafting a DT with the first pick will not improve this team. Fairley or Cody need help in order to shine here. Brayton and Brown aren't good enough help. CJ and Hardy? We can only hope.

You are wrong...

We can draft/sign QBs all day and night, and none of them will succeed with the team around them... as evidenced by the 4 we have played at various points this season...

Next argument...

not true. The team isn't that bad. The team has gotten nothing from the QB position which creates all sorts of other problems.

There is a reason the team was stomping people late last season. It wasn't b/c the talent around the QB was better. Talent was roughly identical parts of the season. QB play was better and teams didn't know how to gameplan yet for a non-Jake QB late last year.

You can look on other teams and notice a HUGE contrast in how an OL and offense in general looks when you swtich from a good NFL QB to a crappy QB. Crappy QBs effect OL play, the run game and an offense as a whole....and even a defense's performance. Again, there are plenty examples outside of Carolina for that....and numerous seasons of it.

D has played well enough for us to win serveral games. Offense hasn't. It hasn't b/c of garbage play at QB.

If you have the #1 pick and don't have a franchise QB then Luck is the pick. There isn't a Suh in the next draft anyway.

    • CJ Stroud going to flame out if he doesn't watch out..
    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
