Official Press Conference Writeup (Panthers.com)

He stumbled over his words a the beginning but as the press conference went on his coversational fluidity improved.

JR is an old man from the south. He talks slow and with a drawl. He talked the same when he was 30 as he does now. People mistake this for senility because they see an old man with saggy old man chins. However, I saw nothing that proves to me that JR has lost any mental acuity.

Same here. Don't mistake slow talking and maybe a word slip or two as "not being all there". Common mistake by people who don't know "sutherners" very well.

If anything, he seemed to me to be very much in control of everything. He definitely has a plan, and is following it. Now whether you agree with that plan, or whether it is right/wrong, is another matter.

The only interviews we have lined up are minorities.

Technically, we're above and beyond "compliance" on that front.

Yeah I know, but we haven't completed them yet.

In the past haven't "potential" candidates declined the interview for other teams as they new it was simply a compliance move?

    • The aversion to tying up too much money in the ground game around when it’s what’s winning us games is crazy to me. I get letting Rico walk if you think he’s easily replaceable but I don’t see many people arguing that, just applying an arbitrary salary cap based on what we think RBs are currently worth. I’d rather be stuck with Hubbard as an overpaid backup (not the worst one to have, mind you) than lose out on the most productive player on the offense personally.
    • Why do people keep saying things like “it’s not Young’s fault we spent so much to draft him”? Who cares if it’s his fault?  Nobody is saying send him to jail or anything.  People aren’t talking about blame for the decision to draft him, they’re talking about how bad he is as a QB and how we’d be much better with even an average QB.  Pointing out that we sunk a lot of resources into drafting him isn’t invalidated because he didn’t make that decision himself. Doesn’t matter whose fault that was, he’s still not playing like a QB who was drafted at all, much less one that cost two firsts, two seconds and a #1 WR.
