Ryan Mallet =

Alex Smith...Luck has to come out or we aint taken a qb...

Are you Kidding? Mallet looked very good except for a couple of plays. Arkansas OL gave him little time and he made play after play...except when the recivers dropped the balls. His liablities to me looked as simple a needing more touch on short passes. His deep balls were spot on.

All QBs throw interceptions, get over that. Comparing QBs W/L vs another QB in a completely different game is idiotic. Luck won and Mallet lost therefor Luck is better (he may be but that reasoning is terrible).

Mallet needs to work on his footwork but he will wow some people at the combine and will probably go pretty high.

Remember, if the punt return team scoops and scores instead of kicks it around and falls on it, this conversation never happens and Mallet is shooting up draft boards.

I still think it goes Luck, Locker, Mallet/Gabbert, Newton.

Mallet will become a good QB in the NFL. Like it or not he has all the tools and his Arm will help him out a bunch. The whole reason everyone passed on Clausen was because of Cartier issues and a weak arm. Were they wrong??? The way I see the QB rankings is this.

Luck,Newton,Mallett, then Locker.

His liablities are his gunslinger like mentality and of course how will he move in the pocket, i think he's an easier sack than all the other draft prospects.

true, all QBs throw interceptions, but his was at the worst time in the game, i am not saying he sucks, i just think Luck is better. Mallett's footwork isnt as bad as his want to throwing passes and forcing them and him not being mobile, Mallett will be good in time, as for the punt return, true on that, BUT the blocked punt put Mallett in position to win the game, the loss in my book is more on him than the guy scooping the punt, there was NO need to force that throw, it wasnt 4th down.

if you mean character issues, Newton and Mallett both have the same issues, as for Mallett, his arm is great, but i worry about how he reminds me of a slower Jay Cutler. and where's Gabbert on your list??? he's going pro too, my rankings are Luck, Locker, Gabbert and Mallett are tied because i dont know who's better, then Newton.

FWIW, the INT wasn't forced. OSU dropped a D-lineman in zone coverage. He was expecting a blitz and the WR had his man beat. Mallett just didn't see the lineman dropping back in zone.

Well then he was LATE on the throw, still this loss goes to his last interception which he either forced or threw too late, the fact is he threw an interception when they had the ball in the red zone area.

For the record he didn't force the throw he just didn't see the defender, it happens all the time. Considering the fact that the defender is a pass rushing specialist, no one expected him to drop from the Dtackle spot to coverage so give the kid a break and chalk it up to good defense.

Clausen doesn't have a weak arm.

As for Mallett. He's a bit of a statue back there, but then Brady is hardly fleet of foot. He needs to work on his footwork.

Wow. Sounds like someone doesn't want any talk of 'possible' competition to ole Lucky. You know that IF the Panthers trade down there's a good chance they may take another QB. That thought is irksome to some I see.

And no Mallett's pass wasn't late, the WR had just broke his route inside. Yes, his fault but even NFL QBs routinely make that mistake. That does not make them bad QBs, just a heck of a defensive call.

lol, why make excuses? that int was completely his fault. Just like the interception luck threw Monday night, his fault. He made 1 too many mistakes (that was really the only 1 that mattered). I don't see the big deal w/ admitting that he screwed up, no one is perfect.

It's the fact that people are using that 1 play to base whether or not he will be a good QB or whether or not we should draft him. It's pretty comical.

    • Ill just be happy if Tepper doesnt make another locker room appearance the rest of the season.
    • The question I wonder involves putting the cost behind us.      At this point he's here, so does the premium paid even matter anymore? It set expectations no doubt, and they weren't met.  He's been bench-worthy bad, but he's come back and looked first average, above-average to maybe great, and then downright bad again.  Now we're back on a good trend again.  Absolute rollercoaster.   So what level of performance deems him a viable option to hold?  He's looked absolutely incapable of moving an offense at times, and others like a guy you can "Purdy" with some dimes sprinkled in.     So, if he continues on this 2 game trend and shows consistent average to above-average play, we're treading into tricky territory.  Such a big investment but he tops out as a top-15/20 QB option.  It's Alex Smith KC type vibes. Are we going to be sitting at 7-10 come end of season and feel kind of meh? It's right at that fringe of what is worth it.  If he doesn't re-sh*t the bed, we may be best suited to go BPA next draft and see the 2026 progression.  And that will be the final make/break year.  What I can see if he doesn't fall apart and things look manageable: He may end up being the average precursor to finding the great talent that you can build the team around.  How Alex Smith was in KC.  They built that with him (not around him) until they eventually got Mahomes.  Heck, think back to Trent Green/Warner.  So, BY can manage, we may get some success, but if a stud comes along, we bail and roll with the new gun.
    • We win 2 games largely due to historic rushing from our backup RB we signed in free agency and now the huddle is regarded as the most toxic place on the internet because not everyone shares the same opinion that Bryce Young has proven himself to actually be a long term starting QB yet. This place was just as ugly through the prime Cam years. People complained about him even when he was producing and we were winning the division. Things were just as ugly through the Jake years. Sometimes people would get so irate and fed up with him they would literally be calling for his head. How about we just give eviscerating one another a breather and see how this team and Bryce look on the road. Nothing anyone can say is going to make a difference until then.
