Get the censors ready...Rob Ryan WILL interview with the Panthers

Ok I took a minute to look at Rob Ryan's work as a DC because I agree with everyone who is saying I should go back and look at his body of work rather than discount him out of hand because he's another Browns coach.

League Rank By Pts/G | Yards/g

2004 (Raiders) -> 31 | 30

2005 (Raiders) -> 25 | 27

2006 (Raiders) -> 18 | 3

2007 (Raiders) -> 28 | 22

2008 (Raiders) -> 24 | 27

2009 (Browns) -> 21 | 31

2010 (Browns) -> 13 | 22

In red are the only two times his defenses have even cracked the top half of the league in either category. I'm not an NFL statistician nor am I a professional analyst - but in 7 seasons of being a DC he has produced defenses that clearly consistently not only have the ball moved on them but are scored on as well (discounting the bend but don't break idea that some coaches are in love with). It seems to me that they were consistently less than mediocre.

He may yet end up as a great coach but I just don't see a lot in the last 7 seasons to get excited about. Certainly not someone I'd be excited about having as our coach the year after we got rid of a coach who failed to produce winning teams 6 out of his 9 years here.

Contrast this with Ron Rivera (who I'm behind if we don't by some miracle decide to hire an offensive guy):

League Rank By Pts/G | Yards/g

2004 (Bears) -> 13 | 21

2005 (Bears) -> 1 | 2

2006 (Bears) -> 3 | 5

2008 (Chargers) -> 15 | 25

2009 (Chargers) -> 11 | 16

2010 (Chargers) -> 10 | 1

In red the only times his defenses as a DC were not in the top half of the league. I'm still not excited because as a fan I'm tired of having a defensive HC - but as someone who tries to look at things logically...it seems like Rivera has the better resume, no?

wow fug my life

I have to be honest, I don't know. I really like Luck. But to the people who are welcoming me thanks. Plus I think he is coming out anyways so I am not worried.

He probably will come out. Now we just all have to fret and hold our collective breath until he declares and doesn't pull some shenanigans.

i hope he does because i dont want to hear him say he's staying in school and then for the next months here how we should look at Cam Newton, i know he's athletic and has a big arm, but i am not impressed with the spread offense he's coming out of and i am not a fan of his character or his poor footwork and also think he will run too soon rather than make nfl reads. Luck is ready to start on day one and his mind is as great as they come.

Still a question about Rivera: If he is so hot, if his stats are so great, why has he been interviewed nearly a dozen times and not gotten a job? I think there is something there we are missing, but I admit he looks the best to us.

a question that many (even me) have wondered.

I don't have an answer for that - but compared to the others on our leaked list of candidates I feel less nervous with him than the others.

same here, i hope they interview more guys than this though, i wish they would interview Brian Schottenheimer and even Jeremy Bates and other offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators and i wish they would also look to Harbaugh, but they wont go after Harbaugh.

They did go after Harbaugh a bit, but Harbaugh wants more control than we'll give.

Schottenheimer is an interesting candidate too but I don't know. I'm not certain he fits their idea of a HC.

i didnt hear about him wanting control. as for Schottenheimer, his dad lives in Lake Norman area and i think he would be a good coach, but i dont see him being hired.

Still speculation honestly - I don't think anyone has confirmed whether we actually called him, whether he ignored us, or why he's not coming here.

We're taking what we can from news reports but none of it is fact.

True it's not fact but there is decent indication we have at least looked at Harbaugh,
