Jerry Richardson is a bad owner

I'm not freaking out at all and I've been on record saying he's not cheap, just that the reason you KNOW he wants to win is because he told you is kinda shady.

The problem is that before, no one talked about the Panthers. Now, they only talk about how cheap the Panthers are (whether true or not) so for a young kid looking to sign a big contract and start a career it could play into his consideration. You can't expect him to know the history of the Panthers and all the free agents we have or haven't signed. All he knows is what he's going to be told and right now it's all negative stuff.

Not saying that will happen, but it's not good for us either way.

Come on. His father played in the league and is an AD at a major college program. His family has connections. They don't need to know our history to know the media reports this year are bs. I understand where you're going here but I think it'll turn out okay on that front.

You're right, him telling me he wants to win isn't enough, but I think that his words to fans that he wants to win combined with his past actions, as well as the context of why this season went down how it did, should be proof enough he wants to win. We'll see if he backs up his words with actions once the CBA is finished.

Can't really argue with anything they said unfortunately. But bad owners have put together great teams, just look at the Saints. IIRC their owner was quite adamant about not lowering ticket prices and was criticized after Katrina. Still he put together the best team and possible a back to back super bowl winner.

Now if Luck doesn't come out, I'll always wonder if it was because of perceived negativity associated with the Panthers. I am going to be optimistic though. Hopefully Richardson will right the ship---and I don't mean in a John Fox, up and down kind of way.

Honestly, he's going to have a hard time showing anyone anything before Luck has time to declare. We may have a coach before then, but he won't be able to sign anyone or do anything of that nature until the CBA, which won't be done for some time.

I think that he ultimately lowered ticket prices, and has now seen the light.

Just because his family has connections doesn't mean the result of those connections is going to be favorable. They could find out that Richardson is only cutting cost to make money and not to get young. They might not like the way he handled some of his players (DWill) when other owners have extended guys even without the CBA. All this plays into a young kid's mind.

I don't know if he comes out but it could also play a part later in his career in terms of extensions and so forth if he does get picked by us this year.

He can sign our own guys, he's just choosing not to. Other owners have taken a different approach.

Which is something else they referred to. Other teams are not necessarily throwing money at key guys, but they are finding a way to get their contracts done.

other owners haven't been signing 10 players.. you have only seen 2-3 at the most..

we are looking at 6-10 guys getting resigned.. (whatever the number is)

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
